Anyone Hate the E-Jets?

From the NYT US Shuttle article:

US Airways also plans to switch the planes... to smaller regional jets known as Embraer 190s

“Business travelers hate regional jets,” said Joe Brancatelli, editor of JoeSentMe, a Web site dedicated to air travel. “The more you downsize the equipment, the more people feel it’s not worth it to fly.”

Personally, I prefer E-jet to any other narrowbody. Aaaah, Joe...

It really does depend on flight length. Anything 90 minutes or under, I don't really care. Over the 90 minute mark, they start to become uncomfortable.

The E170s and E190s are actually fairly comfortable and sometimes more comfortable than "real" planes. Now the E13x and E14x are another story entirely, and I avoid them if at all possible, particularly on flights longer than an hour.

My view exactly....

I'd rather be on an E170 or E190 as there's no middle seat. The seat width and pitch as as good as a 737 and the baggage bins seem to fit my carry-on OK. I have no problem at all on these.

The E135/145 are also fine for me providing:

1) I get an A seat or an aisle seat
2) They have a planeside valet service for carry-ons

95% of the time I get the seat I want and all the European operators seem to offer valet service for the carry-ons. So, much less stress to get on early and secure a place for the carry-on!

However, I will not fly a CRJ - far too small.

Agreed. I'm a big fan of the E90 in the config that jetBlue has it in.

dca-dfw is a 3 hr flight. i find the us E170/190 much superior to the aa md80's which are extremely noisy.

Like others CR7s are fine for short hops of less than 90 minutes. I booked an AA ORD to OKC flight in January unknowingly on a CR7 so I soon find what it is like several hours in one (have always flown just short hops). Also, UA as F on some of its RJs and AA will be doing same on some of its RJs.

I regularly took US' E90/E75 PHL-DFW and found them quite comfortable. Good in Y and very good in F.

As usual, Joe hasn't the slightest clue as to what he's talking about.

Hate regionals.. except the E170 / E190 .... I don't even know if these should be classified as regional jet.

I prefer E-175s and E-190s to pretty much any other single aisle jet that US Airways uses. Much, much more comfortable in coach. That, and nobody gets a center seat.

Use up less pages, to say who like RJ's.

I don't mind them if they are not put into mid-range routes. I had to fly one not too long ago PHX to IAH.

I tend to encounter more seat poachers on the ERJ's...I always end up with the "single" seat. If I board last, someone from the "doulbe" side is usually in it. Never had someone refuse to move though.

3 hrs west in a headwind even on the big ones can be a problem. the plane cannot take a full load.

It depends. I flew Midwest to LGA last week and the seats were farily roomy, my carryon went into the overhead, and there was a First Class section. Flew DL coming home and none of the above was true. As an AA Plat (soon to drop down to Gold), I hate them because upgrades are useless. My usual route is MCI-ORD-HPN and the longer leg, ORD-HPN, is on the RJ. That may be all HPN can handle, I don't know. I also suspect they get delayed/grounded more often when the weather is bad because they're a little more vulnerable and you have fewer "misconnected" pax if you delay an RJ and let the real planes take off.
