Tale of 3 Cities -- what to pack?

I am flying tomorrow to FLL, will spend three days there, then go to BOS for three days and finally spend 4 days in DC.

FLL is not a particular problem. I have spent enough time there in recent years to know what I need. What I don't know is how to pack for BOS and DC in late October - early November. Do I need a light jacket or a heavy winter coat? Will thin wool dress pants suffice or do I need something warmer?

In both BOS and DC my plan is to spend most of my time just walking around the cities, so I will be outside quite a bit of time.

What do you suggest?

Hard to guess but some say this will be a cold winter. On Sunday night there was snow at BOS, which is 4-8 weeks earlier than usual.

They say about New England: if you don't like the weather, wait a minute. The weather could be splendid or blustery.

But unless you plan to spend hours trekking outdoors I'd guess the thin wool pants would be sufficient. If necessary you can easily pick up something to wear under them. A raincoat with zip-out liner might be a good idea, as well as waterproof shoes.

I use Weather.com quite a bit. Accuweather also makes pretty good mobile apps if you have a smartphone.

Bruchim ha ba'im

I'd plan on layers for here in Boston. ABSOLUTELY bring a mid-weight jacket, but also some sweatshirts, long sleeve shirts, a sweater or two, and maybe throw a hat and gloves in there for good luck.

Chances are you can get away without a heavy winter coat as long as you bring enough items to layer and mix-n-match. we did have some freakishly cold weather last weekend and early this week, but it seems to be gone for the moment. However, it's the wind that can often be the biggest issue here in Boston, even when it is seemingly warmish.

That way you can bring the fewest specialized things that will work for both DC and BOS, esp. and somewhat even for FLL if they aren't having a warm spell.

I just want to know why you aren't coming to Philly to watch the Phils.

Err...uhh...I just tried it on. Well, at least I tried to try it on. I think it has shrunk around the stomach area.

Even unbuttoned? Too bad. You looked so fine in that jacket.

Dovster,

You should not need a heavy coat in Boston. The forecast here next week is for pretty mild weather... and no precipitation expected.

Oh, it 'shrunk' around the belly, eh?!?

Must have washed it in hot water...yeah, yeah, that's the ticket!
