FLL is not a particular problem. I have spent enough time there in recent years to know what I need. What I don't know is how to pack for BOS and DC in late October - early November. Do I need a light jacket or a heavy winter coat? Will thin wool dress pants suffice or do I need something warmer?

In both BOS and DC my plan is to spend most of my time just walking around the cities, so I will be outside quite a bit of time.

What do you suggest?
Hard to guess but some say this will be a cold winter. On Sunday night there was snow at BOS, which is 4-8 weeks earlier than usual.

They say about New England: if you don't like the weather, wait a minute. The weather could be splendid or blustery.

But unless you plan to spend hours trekking outdoors I'd guess the thin wool pants would be sufficient. If necessary you can easily pick up something to wear under them. A raincoat with zip-out liner might be a good idea, as well as waterproof shoes.
