I'm bumping an old thread just to let everyone know that the price alert feature in Tripit has a few quirks. If you ever change the 'Price' field, say to revise a Southwest points booking to input a price rather than the $5 taxes paid, you have to enter it as "$ 200" or "USD 200" or the alerts won't function properly.
IE, I make a reservation using Southwest points worth $300. I want to know if a cheaper points booking is available, so I revise Tripit to say I paid $300 rather than the $5 in taxes that the 'Paid' field will show based on the email confimation. |
No doubt this is not Tripit's fault. But I used to be able to log in on the IOS app with one click using my Google account credentials. Now I can't - I'm being pushed into using Google Plus, which I have no desire to sign up for.
Of course, I can just use my email address and a password, but I resent this reduction in functionality. So much so, that I've decided to give up on Tripit after several years as a user. |
I'm trying to do the same thing. I booked SIN-BKK now and have the return out months from now with a placeholder date.
Trying to break these two flights into different Tripit trips. |
I used to have this problem, but found a solution over at AFF by serfty who also posts here.
Basically you need to set so your itineraries go into "Unfiled items". To do this you need to go to the top right of the home screen and click on your name. A drop down menu will appear with various items. Click on Settings. Then click on "About You" on the left hand menu. Go to the bottom of the page. Under Travel Preferences uncheck the box marked "Put new plans into trips". One way to solve the problem is to resend your flight data. Once it has arrived, then delete the old itinerary. Then go to unfiled items and click on make a copy (under the options menu at the right). Then adjust the itineraries by deleting the necessary flights (eg. delete inbound flight and so keep outbound flight in one and delete outbound flight and keep inbound flight in the other.) Then click on "move" from the options menu and create your trip name or move to an existing trip. If you have more flights that you want to break up into separate trips then simply make more copies of the original and edit as necessary. I hope this helps. |
Moving this off to Travel Tools.

I've manage similar to the way referred to by serfty. I let them go to their own trips though (instead of unfiled), but for nested tickets etc it's a matter of copying itineraries to multilpe trips and then editing them to remove the flights not relevant to that trip.
This might be more painful though, cause you then may need to adjust the trip itself to reflect the correct dates once you've got all your plans in place. More of my flights are independent, so its easier for me to do this and have most create their own trip automatically then have to deal with each one manually. |
Tripit Android app
Guys
I haven't configured SMS on my tripit but rather using the Tripit Android app. Has anybody got experience with this? Does it show seat alerts as quick as sms would? Thx |

Unfortunately it seems like every update gets less and less useful. It used to show lots of information conveniently, now you have to page through multiple pages with each page showing only a minimal amount of information. Most of the screen is taken up by extraneous decorations and clutter. The widget used to show everything you needed to know about the next flight, now it's only showing the time without the date and half the space is taken up by the tripit logo. The last release broke it even further making it a 4x2 widget even though it only needs 4x1 space. |
is expertflyer better for seat alerts?
|
i'm answering my own question. I got alerted by expertflyer today and booked my window seat immediately. No alert from tripit pro at all. Not impressed so far

Thanks to serfty and the other users in this thread... I had an issue where TripIt just took two completely unrelated Concur-generated trips that were separated by a few days and merged them into one big trip. I moved the second trip items to a new trip, manually edited the dates on the first trip, and done.

TripIt keeps asking for sign-in with Outlook 2013
I use the TripIt calendar in Outlook 2013 on four pcs. Of the three that I have checked, when Outlook 2013 is active I repeatedly get the dialogue boxes to re-enter my id and password. The window is labelled "Windows Security".
I have entered my id and password countless times but nothing works. Anyone know how to resolve this? This is a new issue that just started showing up a few days ago. Two pcs have W8.1 and one has W7. |
I'm getting the same error. Windows 7, Outlook 2010

You are not alone - I am getting exactly the same messages - very annoying
