WorldMate question
My subscription for TripIt is up at the end of the month and I wanted to try WorldMate to see if I wanted to switch. I'd used WM on BB many years ago and liked it but when I went Android, their offering came up short.
I downloaded WM to try it and it just crashes everytime I try to open it. Removed and reloaded, deleted data/cache, everything. Contacted WM support and I haven't heard diddly from them (looks like they don't want/need the business?).
So, my question to anyone using WM on Android. Do you like it, is it worth my bugging WM to see if they can get it working for me?
While TripIt works for me, I don't like how busy they have made the interface - a cleaner look would be better.

I got a free year of WorldMate Gold and gave it a try, but it soon became apparent to me that it doesn't do the job that I want it to do. I kept track of all the many differences I found between TripIt and WorldMate, but to summarize, the primary reasons that WorldMate didn't work out for me centered around these issues:
- TripIt does a better job of parsing the emailed itineraries from the travel providers that I use. WorldMate fails to parse ticket number, operating airline, price, and booking details on some occasions, whereas TripIt almost always parses the passenger name, ticket number, price, and booking details. This is probably a big YMMV, because I'm sure that WorldMate works better for others.
- WorldMate places each flight segment into a separate flight entry, so that a PNR becomes a list of individual, unrelated flights that then must be edited separately. TripIt places each flight segment under the same flight entry, which facilitates managing the entry as a single PNR. This one was a biggie for me, especially when deleting/changing/managing flights.
- On one occasion, Avianca sent multiple confirmation emails for each member of my travel party. WorldMate processed the first one but errored out on the second because the flights duplicated those from the first one, even though the name and ticket number were different. TripIt combined the separate itineraries into a single flight entry with the same confirmation number but with separate line items for passenger name and ticket number. It was then that I realized that keeping track of multiple travellers is something that WorldMate simply doesn't do. As I am often the organizer of the trips I take with others, this became a dealbreaker for me.
- One small but significant thing that WorldMate doesn't do is store hotel check-in and check-out times. This omission took me by surprise, because I like to document the times that I plan to arrive and leave the hotel as part of my travel planning process. TripIt displays these events in chronological order as part of the travel plan for my arrival and departure days.
- There are a couple of ways in which the WorldMate interface is superior: World Mate does a better job of popping up windows to facilitate the entry and selection of dates, times, and addresses, whereas TripIt often presents an empty box for me to type in with limited assistance.

WorldMate works for me and my needs (but as mikew99 points out with good arguments), it's not for everybody's travel needs or styles. For what it's worth, I've used it for years on both Android and iOS with never a crash (which I can't say for many applications of any sort.) I don't have issues with WorldMate's parsing of confirmation emails/itineraries, but I'm not looking for as much detail (prices, check-in times) as is mikew99 - again, showing that everybody has different needs. I like WorldMate's interface, stability (for me, though obviously you've had a very different experienece), and level of detail. On my last trip, I experienced my first glitch with WorldMate - it failed to pick up one segment of a two segment flight (out of four total.) That's the first time that has happened for me, and most of my flights are multi-segment (since AUS is my home airport, and has disturbingly few direct flight options, at least when I need them.

WM finally did get back to me and said that the problem has been escalated to another group. Oddly, they never asked me anything beyond my initial e-mail describing the problem so I don't know what/how they are going to address the fact that the app just won't run on my phone (Samsung Mega).
Thanks for the feedback. It probably makes more sense to renew with TripIt (or perhaps go with the free version - I have to figure out if Pro features really matter to me). I find the alerts redundant with other sources so that's not motivating.
As I said, I find the interface a little busy and, also, I don't like that when it opens, it features a specific entry in my itinerary but it does not do a good job of figuring out what matters most. Too often, the entry is a past event and what I really want to see is another entry in the trip. Frankly, they are doing too much - I would rather they just display a list of entries for the trip I am in. Then, I can open my flight, car, hotel... As it stands now, they show a specific entry which is wrong and that forces me to go up a level and look for the correct entry - moreover, the one entry takes up a small amount of screen real estate and I have a lot of empty space - why not the app open into the list? Bad design and an extra layer that is not needed.
Right now, I am on a trip and it opens to tell me that I need to check out tomorrow AM. frankly - that's not an important event and I need little to no info from an app to check out of my hotel. I am much more likely to want to look at my flight - time, etc. It's fine to want to make your app smart but if what it serves up is stupid why create more complexity.
OK - sorry for my rant. And most importantly, thanks for the detailed feedback on WM, it certainly helps in understanding what the alternative really provides.
