Overall I think the best cases are from your back yard, www.vajacases.com. They dont have a custom N97 case yet (they have the N96) but they do have pouches. Very high quality materials and workmanship. Expensive but worth it.

I've used my N97 for 10 days now.
My thoughts:

I bought this phone to replace my iPhone 3G. After a10 day business trip, dropped calls, poor RF reception, memory lag issues and poor battery life I wanted something more reliable. And unlocked, and with an existing base of developers with new and useful applications.
So onto my impressions:
Good
Great handfeel
Great build
The screen is great, bright highly legible in sunlight, and easy to use.
The keyboard is actually very good, once you get used to the layout and the placement of the space bar.
The RF reception is better than on the iPhone and iPhone 3G. I've yet to drop a call in NYC, including places where the iPhone (3G) would lose signal.
The homescreen widgets are very good, and he customization in layout and appearance increases the feeling of being connected.
The camera is available in 2-3 seconds and is highly responsive and takes really good pics.
Less good:
The UI:
Things that should take one click often require more.
Transitions are not always smooth.
Animations are limited, and you sometimes you just sit there and wait.
Even with the recently released firmware S60 V5 is showing it's age, time for this to be replaced with a native touchscreen UI
Transferring media is unintuitive, and if you're on a Mac somewhat complicated.
Bad:
Nokia released this phone with a beta firmware
Nokia has very few N97 ready apps out
The Ovi store is a joke
I have been completely unable to load my Outlook calendar on the phone.

So am I going to keep the phone?
Yes
It's an outstanding phone, with good mobile computer functionality.
The iPhone (I can't speak to the 3GS) is a great mobile computer with an adequate phone.
I hope that the coming Q3 firmware release unlocks more of the raw potential of the N97.

Absolute deal breaker for me. It was so easy to download Outlook appointments to the N95 and I was hoping it would be a similar experience with the N97.

Do you mean an sync to Outlook on your PC or are you trying to download your calendar from an Exchange server? Thanks.

Calendar Sync response
 
I've tried every variant of calendar sync I can think of:
MfE (which os active syncing my email, but not my calendar)
I've tried to connect to my work computer, but the N97 isn't being identified by my work PC.
I can't run more than one activesync profile, so I can't run Google Sync.
I've tried Goosync, failed.
I've got an email into the Tech CS team so they might have a solution for me that I haven't tried.

MFE will do calendar - its not switched on by default though, same with contacts.

You could also try www.ovi.com - free calendar/contacts syncing. Share and Files on Ovi also allow photo and files access.

I will say the UI needs a ton of work... many standard phone functions are a pain to use...

Non favorite contact managment/acess is difficult. I miss a dedicated key to browse & select contacts for quick dialing.
