Newbie iPod Touch Question

I just purchased and iPod touch and have been kicking myself for not purchasing sooner. I've been using an ASUS Eee machine for a while now and the iPod seems to do everything I did with the exception of one thing...posting photos to the web. I haven't been able to find an adapter that would allow me to hook my SD cards into the iPod but someone mentioned a WiFi SD card. Would this work with an iPod? Mainly looking to post pictures for my family to see while I'm on the road.

This company makes special SD cards that have a tiny wireless adapters in them so that they can automatically upload pictures to a device or the internet (depends on which card exactly you have). They also geotag photos. The problem here is that the cards have to know the wireless network they are connecting to. If you are on the road that makes this functionality much more difficult.

My guess is that the iPhone/iTouch 3.0 software that allows the iPhone/iTouch to interact with 3rd party devices, will have some entrepreneurial dev come up with a solution to do what you want through the iPhone.

iPod Touch does not have a micro SD card slot so the Eye Fi cards are not an option. Doesn't the Touch itself have a web browser that could access, say Snapfish, oFoto, Picasas, etc. and then let you upload photos taken with the Touch that way (just like on a laptop or desktop). Alternative, doesn't the Apple App store have uploaders available from various photo sharing sites.

the eyefi card in the camera could send photos to an iphone running appropriate software.

it has a browser, plus there are a lot of apps that can automate uploading to the various sites.

You've misunderstood the issue. The iPod touch doesn't have a camera for a start. The question was whether it could be used to connect (via WiFi) to a camera with one of the Eye-Fi cards installed, and then use the iPod Touch itself to upload these photos to a website of some sort. The answer is that it is possible in theory, but would require software that allowed it to pull the photos off the Eye-Fi card.

I don't believe you can upload just any file from the ipod touch safari browser. At least on the page I tried, the file input control wasn't displayed.

Newbie to a greater degree here. My iPod Touch gets the music and podcasts from iTunes when I sync it, but not the apps that I've gotten. Should they show on the start-up display? Do I need to upgrade the iPod software for about $10? (That's shown before when I've had the iPod attached, but I'm not seeing it now.) I'm reluctant to pay for something when I don't know what benefits it has.

It seems you have a 1st gen iPod Touch, if this is the case, you must upgrade the OS to 2.X via the $10 upgrade to use apps from the app store.

Be sure you click on the applications tab for your iPod when you're linked to iTunes and check the "sync applications" box.
