DECT phones
I soon will be moving into a new home. I'll need an answering machine/phone as well as three other handsets.
I understand very little about technology. But one system that I keep coming back to is the Panasonic KX-TG9344T.
Can anyone convince me why this is a good system to buy....or convince me why to try something else?

It's fine. i have a slightly earlier model. it works between the end of the pier and my house. that is about 100 meters.(300ft). it is clean and quite.
i do not like panasonic and sony as everything they make is proprietary. you have to go to them to buy any replacement or add on thing, and it is 5-10 times the price of any other.
make certain you phone will accept a headphone.
the things only cost $100 or so, so they are sort of disposable. why worry. i just pick up whatever is on the shelf at sams or costco.
i prefer vtech, by the way. we have one of those in the house also.

One advantage of DECT is that it is on 1.9MHz band, which it doesn't share with anything else. 2.4GHz is competing with WiFi, and propagation, esp through walls, etc is significantly worse at 5.8GHz, which is the disadvantage of phones using that band.
I haven't actually used a DECT phone recently, but all other things being equal it should perform better than the alternatives.

I use an RCA 2 line DECT at home. Excellent quality, good battery life, and has all the options that most people would be looking for-including an answering machine.
I get zero interference (either way) to/from my various other electronic components in my home.

I've been using the Panasonic KX-TG9344T in my home office for a while now. I use the speaker phone in the base for most calls, but have found the handsets work fine, and the battery life so far has been good as well as the sound quality.
About the only thing I've discovered that I don't like, is that when I'm on the phone and get a call waiting caller ID, the phone won't display it. It still displays the "line in use" on the handsets, and I've not figured out how to view it while still talking on the base's speakerphone. The CID gets there, because after the call I'm on is over, I see the number in the missed calls list.
