OT: A question for Word Experts
Not strictly travel tech as I am in fact sat at my desk at the moment but.... I thought I might have a better chance of an answer here before our Mods moves the thread to Omni.
So, my table has a header and a footer and I want each to appear on every page. I've tried using the heading rows repeat option and this does indeed copy my header to every page. It also leaves this header uneditable. While I need to keep the format of the header consistent per page, I also need to vary the contents quite a bit (we're talking a fair bit more than just page numbers here).
Is there any easy way to achieve what I want without a lot of work?

What kind of "varying contents" do you mean? Are you talking about specific parts/words in a section, or chapter titles, or _______??? (Some more guidance might help solve your conundrum -- just trying to think of what the "varying contents" might be.)

The varying content
Ok, we're talking a legacy paper form for recording test results that we sometimes use with customers (usually old customers because they like "the piece of paper with the two signatures on it). In addition to the usual date, page number, we'll have the name of the customer rep (could be different each day), the functional area being tested (could be one of many) and so on.

For the things that are supposed to be the same on every page use the header and footer function. For the stuff that is different just put it on the individual pages. But tables are not what you want to be using for that.

you can handle this through a macro. Start recording a macro, set the header and print page one. Stop recording the macro. Go to the macro editor (apt f11). You will see the code that prints one page after changing the headed. Copy and change the code to the information you need for page 2, etc. Then to get fancier, you can even pull the data you need from Excel or Access as needed.
That is supposed to be alt f11. It is near impossible to edit a post on an iPhone.

That's what I ended up thinking. Well, what I ended up with was three tables on each page. It's not perfect but it allows me to do in Word what, only a few years ago, we were doing with pen. It's actually been replaced with a database but some customers still prefer it.

I'll give that a try.
