i'd be a little mindful of what powers the authorities have over companies like google that store your data, privacy etc.
I know your concern about data loss is valid, but once you give your data to google, do you really think they will delete it? they'll archive it at least...

Have been using Sugar Sync but wonder about Google Docs (one less separate application etc.) Any opinions about the differences between the two?

I use Mozy. It's easy and works well. They have a free service for up to 2 GB (I think) or a ridiculously low rate (maybe $15/yr?) for unlimited space for personal use.
MozyPro is their commercial offering. It's still a good deal, and is easy to administer multiple clients/users/etc.

I am also wondering if they place higher priorities to invitation signups. Haven't decided if I should ask BNA_flyer for one yet.

Gspace is a free option to automate what you're trying to do.
