This might be a great option for someone with a slightly higher price/inconvenience threshold. $.99 is cheap and it seems to have great reviews in iTunes!

Just save to Dropbox on your phone and they'll show up on Dropbox on your computer.

I was wrong: it's $2.99 I think.

I use Neat, desk and travel scaner,
Keep the files in Google Doc,

Also use Software called File Center, they give you 30 days free trial, E Doc is an other good file software,, both are about $50.00 and use any scaner.

The main trick is file and find the efile.

Both are real paper tigers.

Any updates? Seems like they have made a lot of recent enhancements.

I have been spectacularly happy with my Scan-Snap scanner. It isn't portable but attaches to a computer and easily scans one or both sides of the document (and it has a document feeder) into a PDF for Evernote or other uses. I liked it so much in my office that I got another one for my home office. My assistant and I exchange/coordinate a lot of documents through Evernote and it works fantastically well.

Another ScanSnap devotee here. It's a little workhorse. Not little enough to be a portable solution though.
