Is Monster Cable iAirPlay compatible with iPod touch?

Hi all,

I apologize if this isn't the right forum (couldn't decide if it was Travel Technology or Travel Product), so feel free to move this if necessary.

I am getting an iPod touch in the next couple days for a couple rather long flights (ORD-HNL and KOA-ORD) and will be flying in F on a 777 on both flights, so an Empower port should be available.

I did some searching online and found a product called Monster iAirPlay which includes an iPod connection ending in an Empower plug, that can then be plugged into a car plug adapter.

Does anyone know if this product will work with the iPod touch or if there is something else that will work? The sites said they were compatibles with all iPods with dock connections, but didn't explicitly list the iPod touch. It appears the iAirPlay was discontinued, but I found a couple places that still sell it new-in-box.

i have the iairplay and you need to see if the charger port on the ipod touch is the same as say mine (ipod video-5th gen). if it is, it should work but to be sure, i would go to an apple store and ask (and bring either a printout of what you found or the web links and have one of the techhies look at it. if they say "go" then you should be all set).

My touch works will all the accessories I used with my 3G and my 2G nano, so I can't see why it wouldn't work with the iAP.

Thanks for the help, both of you. I actually fly out of BOS the morning of the 27th, so I already ordered the iAirPlay from Amazon, which should be here by Friday. I'm going to bring it with me to the Apple store this weekend to try it out on a touch to see if it fits.

I'm actually a bit excited about this, both because I found the touch quite well-designed when trying it out in the store and because I heard UA's February movies are awful and I noticed March's aren't Oscar award-winners either. It'll also be a good chance to try out the renting feature from iTunes.

one thing to be aware of is the "plug" which fits into the ipod....it's larger than most so if you have a case, it might not fit. BUT, there is a workaround....

for me, i used an xacto knife to very carefully shave off some of the plastic on the opening on my case and voila!. just go slow and gentle and you'll be fine (and don't forget that the iairplay has a car cigarette lighter charger, built right over the empower charger so you can give your ipod a head start on the drive to the airport).

I'm pretty sure it WILL work on the Touch, but not the iPhone. The touch takes almost any accessory that the dock iPods take, but the iPhone is rather picky.

I'm actually looking for a case that will allow me to prop up the iPod touch horizontally so watching movies is easier (vs. holding the touch in one position for hours on end). I'll see what the Apple store has to offer when I'm there in the next couple days.

Mine came with a little plastic stand for doing just such a thing.
