Using a US Flat screen in Europe

Hi,
Moving back to Europe, the folks are loading up a container with furniture and all sort of household items. Of course, the LCD/Plasma TVs are way cheaper here than in the old country and we would like to pack some up.

With the CRTs, the obvious problem was the NTSC/PAL differences in systems. However, I was under the impression if the internal tuner is bypassed via component, DVI, or HDMI input, that the TV should only act as a monitor?

But in the old country cable is analog, and we would need a PAL modulator that would convert a signal to input format acceptable to the TV.

Does anyone have experience trying to get something like this to work? I know that Panny sells professional plasmas/tvs, but they are kind of big for Europe.

Thanks!

I would first check your TV spec. Most likely it already supports all formats and voltage. Electronics components are pretty much standardized now across the globe. I brought my Toshiba over with no problems.

I guess it would be helpful to have a list of models that support dual PAL/NTSC system then. Here is what I came up with on Amazon:

Sony KLH-W26
Sony KLV-26S200A
SONY KLV32S200A
Sony KLV-37U300A
Sony KLV40V200A
Sony KLV-46V300A

Hitachi C21-F800S
Hitachi C25 TF751S
Hitachi 37LD9000
Hitachi 42PD9500
Hitachi L32A01A

Toshiba 42A3500
Toshiba TO26A3000

If anyone can add other models to this list it would be good.

Thanks!
