Here's a bit of an oddity....
I had to upgrade my Blackberry to a Windows Mobile device because my employer no longer allows POP or IMAP access. I've set my new TyTN 2 up with the webmail address of our Exchange server, given it my user name, password and domain and everything just works.
Just on thing: When someone sends me an email, it simply appears on the TyTN (and we're talking a lot faster than through BWC here). This has me scratching my head a little because I thought setting up push email would be more difficult than this (including begging people trained to say "no"). So, a couple of questions:
1. Is it possible that my TyTN is just permanently connecting to the and using lots of bytes from my data allowance? Is there any way to check this (the Pocket Outlook settings seem very basic)?
2. If the answer to 1 is yes, then is there anyway to change the polling frequency?
None of this should be a problem when I'm in the UK (T-Mobile's web and walk is generous), but I'm often in the US at the moment and subject to data roaming (normally pennies per week on the Blackberry).

If you are connecting over activesync (open activesync on the TyTn and see if it's connected to the Exchange server) then it won't use too much data at all.
It connects through activesync to your Exchange server using HTTP so there is no polling. You can however change the sync schedule, open Activesync and select "schedule". You'll see the "peak times" and "off-peak" times schedule for email delivery.

Many thanks for answering that one. I've just gone to programs->activesync and confirmed it is indeed syncing up with the exchange server. Does this have any impact on battery?
I'll not bother with the peak/off peak stuff until I've assessed the impact on my bill when I'm next roaming.

It's actually better on battery life than normal pop polling. On my HTC device I get about 2-3 days with Bluetooth and push email enabled.

It definitely does "just work" in most cases. But the data costs can certainly be high...I probably run about 200Mbytes/month for data. So I make sure roaming is set to manual...but even so, I used to figure it would cost $5 each time I told it to sync.

How are you syncing? Information is a little scarce but the best I have so far is that prior to direct push, usage should have been 4-5MB per user, going down to 2.5-3MB per user after Exchange 2003 SP2 (with direct push) deployment. See:

Of course, I'm a firm believer that "seeing is believing" so the lack of any sort of meter (at least that I can find) on my TyTN2 is starting to annoy me!
