If you turn the brightness down on the iPod when watching video you also get quite a bit more viewing time. I've gone LAX-AMS (not as far as LAX-CDG ) and got a good 4-5 hours of video plus audio for the balance of the time. But as soon as they dim the cabin lights I reduce the iPod to minimum brightness.

I also use an iGo Xtender for that extra power needed on my iPod, eBook reader, cell phone, etc. If you already use iGo (i.e. have the tips) its fairly inexpensive.

If you go to your local electronics store, you'll find lots of third-party gadgets that provide external batteries for your 'pod, in order to extend its life.
