firefox lost all my bookmarks
I rebooted my computer and all of a sudden, firefox lost all my bookmarks and the list for addblock. this happens to me about twice a year. anyone has an idea where that comes from?
(happened back in time with the netscape, too - there it lost all my bookmarks AND emails as well.)

Don't worry, they're not lost, as FF makes several backups. You'll find a recovery procedure in the FF documentation.
Even if you load FF and tell it to forget everything, you can still get to the settings as long as too many boot processes have overlaid the backups with the new (blank) ones.

I've used firefox for years, and never had your lost bookmarks experience--but one suggestion, FWIW--I use the Foxmarks bookmark synchronizer add-in to keep my bookmarks in sync across multiple machines. Apart from just being a slick add-in for its intended purpose, it strikes me that it may take care of issues like this to some extent, insofar as it essentially uploads a backup of your bookmarks to a server somewhere, which is then downloaded to your PC(s).

Look in Docs&Settings\name\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\profiles\****\bookmarkbackups - there should be plenty or previous versions to copy back to the next higher level in the directory

Two things:
1. To solve your problem: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Lost_bookmarks
2. I agree that foxmarks is a very neat tool, however I'm not sure yet what my feelings are about having my bookmarks stored on some random website. To be fair, they give you the option of using your own server but I have yet to test it.
