Replacement for T-Mobile MDA
My MDA is getting long in the tooth and starting to give problems.
I'd like the following in a new handset:
-GSM and easily SIM unlockable.
-WM6
-WiFi
-EDGE or better
I only want it for a year or so.
Which handset is the best bang for the buck?
Any recommended retailers?

It might be helpful if you have a good story rehearsed to tell the CSR. Since the offer is for "Microsoft employees, family, and friends" you might be a friend of Ernie Tramposh, the guy who designed the tumbling hourglass (which should be designated the MS corporate logo IMO).
Since I develop applications for the Windows Mobile platform, I just told the truth. I'm not an employee, but I guess ISDs are eligible, too. I added a line to my Family Plan for $10 monthly on a 1-year contract.

Wirelessly posted (TMobile DASH: BlackBerry8320/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)
I have a Dash and like it but it is a big step down in functionality from an MDA. The Dash runs the Smartphone version of WM and few programs will work on it and it doesn't have.a touchscreen. Its a nice phone with some PDA functions. The MDA is more of a PDA with a phone built it. If you want something like the MDA get the Wing as a direct replacement. For an major upgrade get an HTC TyTn or TyTNII.

- The screen is a little small to use it as a dash-mounted GPS
- If you don't manage memory judiciously, it gets pretty slow
- It doesn't have integral GPS (Wing and Dash can use a BT puck)
- Its earphone connector is proprietary, necessitating an adapter

But there are lots of programs that I have downloaded and installed in it. And of course with WM6 it has the MS Office programs.

I should have been more specific and said that it has few programs in comparison to a non-smart phone version of WM such as the Wing. As I said, I like it, it has Office as you point out, and there is a version of Pocket Informant for it. But it doesnt have a lot of the things like I run on my TyTN.

Amazon also has the Wing - for $150 more than the Dash. But I have a Wing I got for $50 on the MS deal, and I can hardly wait until T-Mo goes 3G so I can replace it with a TyTnII. Things with Wings:
- The screen is a little small to use it as a dash-mounted GPS
- If you don't manage memory judiciously, it gets pretty slow
- It doesn't have integral GPS (Wing and Dash can use a BT puck)
- Its earphone connector is proprietary, necessitating an adapter

I was thinking the TyTn II's European 2100 could be used here with a minor tweak - but alas, T-Mo US isn't ready anyway. I rest assured that HTC isn't going to neglect this market.

T-Mo is offering the Samsung T639 on 1700. The Nokia 6263 is out of FCC and (evidently) ready to roll.

It won't be able to be user modified. However, there are rumors of an upcoming WCDMA1700 version of the TyTNII next year.

I'd rather do that than DiY anyway. Remember where you heard it? Google knows nada.

In anticipation of the upcoming TM 3g network, I just bought a Dash without contract to tide me over. It should do most of what I need before a real 'must have' phone that is supported by TM 3g is available.
Thanks for the suggestions.
