Looking at the Dell XPS M1330 with 13" display and option to upgrade to LED display, so wondering how much improvement is there to a LCD display?

This still is an LCD display, but is backlit with an LED element rather than a fluorescent bulb. The principal differences are lower power consumption, a somewhat brighter (some say "whiter") image without the "fading" that occurs over time with fluorescent bulbs, and elimination of mercury and arsenic otherwise used in fluorescent bulbs.

Slightly OT, but how similar/dissimilar will white LED light bulbs be to the LED that you describe here? I had the impression that white LED light bulbs were still a few years off, so was surprised to hear about this.

Honestly, I'm not certain if these are the same. Perhaps the LED mavens from the flashlight thread could chime in here?
