(FYI: You can send links - and phone numbers - to someone via email or SMS with the iPhone.)

I was trying to parse how something with such cludgy workarounds can be righter but got lost in the defensiveness.

Like most Apple products, in my experience, it excels at a specific set of tasks - and that set of tasks is narrower than other devices and narrower than I can cope with.

Can hardly compare it to an iPhone.

The iPhone doesn't have 3G or active synch exchange push email either, and I'm still trying to figure out why the phone doesn't support stereo bluetooth headsets (the iPhone is supposed to be good for multimedia, right?)

I'm sure it'll get A2DP sooner or later, but it's a REAL battery killer, and there just are not that many decent stereo headsets out there.

Clearly someone at Apple doesn't believe in A2DP or they'd have put it in their ipods ages ago. I've got several devices here that support it, and I don't bother using it.

FWIW, I have been pretty impressed with the sound quality of the Apple wired headphones for phone calls. With both earbuds in I can hear better than with most Bluetooth headsets I've used. (They're far from fantastic for iPod use of course)

I never tried stereo BT before though.

That's about the right time. 6 weeks or so, enough time to refurb the early returns, DOAs, failures.

Refurb usually turns out well (carries same warranty as new, etc). 100 bucks is a good discount for something in that price range, really, if you're in the market for this gadget.

From the article (EMPHASIS MINE):

It took QWERTY users almost twice as long to create the same message on the iPhone as it did on their QWERTY phone. While there was improvement over time, the difference persisted even after using the iPhone for 30 minutes.
-and-

Overall, the findings in the study can be taken as a good representation of what iPhone text messaging is like for a customer who has just bought an iPhone and is using it for the first time.
Over all I can type just as well on my iPhone after one and a half months of use as I could with my Treo 650 which I had for a year and a half. The only time I run into problems with slow SMS's on the iPhone is when I try using a lot of abbreviation and the software tries to correct me.

$100 off but no free extended warranty?

Ummm, no thanks I think I'll pass on the refurb which could be a lemon. Or had coffee spilled on it. Whatever. $100 off a $600 device is just not enough of a discount to take a chance.

Sorry? You want more of a warranty on the item than it would come with if it was new? You don't get less of a warranty?

Is there some other product that gives you an extended warranty for free because it's a refurb?

Same thing here. There was a learning curve. Like a good monkey, I can be trained- a refreshing thought.

I agree also about the correction software- it took me a while to learn how to dismis the proposed correction.

When typing a SMS in a foreign language, it can become qute annoying to have to correct very word.

Oh my god... 55 pages devoted to the iCrap...

Fellas, when will you realize that the iCrap is nothing special? It's an overpriced and underfurnished piece of junk. It's a Honda Civic with a body kit running on 20s.

Man you are dead on. Mods please lock this thread as the voice of reason has finally settled all discussions, so there is no point to this thread anymore.

Then why did you bother posting? If you're not interested, don't comment.

A little Carlin philosophy for you:

"Next time you're at a wishing well ask for the manager. Tell him you've been coming here for 20 years and none of your wishes has come true. Either give me my money back or I'm sh*^&^#g in the well"
