canada

We can only hope that apple and ROGERS (the reported carrier in CA) will do something similar when they launch the iphone there.

Rogers currently offers a 200MB data plan (this is JUST THE DATA PLAN!) for 110C$ (basically 110US$) and a 500MB plan for 219C$. WOW, that is some serious cost for a slingfix!

Hopefully, they will come to some other agreement.

270k iPhones sold in the first 30 hours.

Not nearly as high as some of the most rosy forecasts but still not bad for a $500 or $600 gadget.

what were they

what were the early 30 hour forcasts?

I had head, 250K on Friday alone, and then 500K by Monday, which would have been 60. i know this seems like splitting hairs, but still.

personally, when ATT said 127 yesterday, I said 250 apple.

I think some analysts were saying as much as 700k for the weekend.

It seems some price target upgrades came out of that.

The one million in three months target is the most interesting for me. That's quite a volume to sustain after a weekend where presumably most of the Apple fanboys will have snapped one up, and with CIBC's talk of a significant decline in sales already.

If they can make a device that is actually functional for the things most power users want to do but still keep it easy to use, it's going to be well worth a look. Guess that'll have to be a v2 device.

Anyone have any expericne with the iPhone overseas yet? Going to Germany right now, took an act of congress to get int Roaming/calling on my new line, but done. Have to see how well it works there, if at all. Any advice or news would be good to hear.

It works fine for calling, messaging, voicemail, and data.

I wish I could say the same about iTunes, which may be the biggest POS ever to be installed on a computer.

It works fine HOWEVER...data roaming rate is $.02 per KB so be sure to disable the auto email checking unless you have really deep pockets. I unfortunately had to keep referring back to emails which I had previously read and since the iPhone doesn't store full messages with attachments it had to keep downloading them from the server everytime I needed to look at it.

Also had some issues with the WIFI deciding it didn't like the network I was on and then the phone would kick over to the EDGE network while I wasn't paying attention...more data charges for me! :(

The more I read about the iPhone, the more I realise the features I take for granted in my current phone. Doesn't store attachments? That's ridiculous.

Yeah its very bothersome at times. Especially if you're mid-flight and want to view a .pdf file that came in earlier...no dice.

While I don't regret buying the iPhone, Apple definitely has a good bit of work to do on future upgrades/versions.

I will say that the cute girl sitting next to me from CDG-LHR was impressed by it, and we had a lovely chat during the flight! ;)

I'm keeping my SE K800i to use with prepaids SIM for when I travel internationally. :p

Ugh..

A colleague of mine tried to buy an iPhone about a month ago (we do applications for mobile phones and needed one for the company). At the AT&T store they didn't have any but said they would fedex him one, which would take about three weeks. He signed the contract and got the sim card.
Later that day he went to an Apple store and bought another iPhone complete with contract and sim card since they had them at the store. This phone he took with him to another branch of our company, intending to return the first iPhone upon returning three weeks later, which should be fine since it was supposed to take three weeks to arrive.
Somehow it only took them two days to mail it and thus when he got back it was too late for the 14 days return period.
He still uses the sim card that came with it, but we don't need two iPhones. So I spent today trying to return it - the first AT&T store would have accepted it, but he (or at least his CC) would have needed to be physically present - impossible at the moment. The Apple store couldn't do anything and the second AT&T store didn't see any chance either.
Of course, they aren't really to blame. Maybe the shipping estimation could have been more accurate, but other than that they didn't do anything wrong - except maybe let Apple talk them into very strict refund rules..

Now we'll be trying to talk to AT&T WHQ, after all this still makes him a loyal customer with two high profile contracts and one iPhone.
The other way would be selling the phone at ebay or where ever - anyone want a never used, not activated iPhone? ;)

My iPhone is dead!!!

:( :( :(

I plugged it into my mac last night before passing out, and I woke up this morning to find it "unresponsive"!.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

What do I do? The bloody thing has only got one button, right? I keep pressing it, and NOTHING HAPPENS!

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

It's dead. It's DEAD!!!

What to do?

---

P.S. I am 8K miles from the nearest Apple store. Also, I don't have my cradle. I've thought about just chucking it against the wall in front of me, but thought better of it.

Any ideas?

Try this:

2) To perform a soft reset, press and hold the iPhone’s Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for several seconds, or until you see the apple logo on the screen. (This action did reset my iPhone and I was very happy at this point). The guys that helped me said that continually performing soft resets can cause problems however.

That did it. How come I didn't think of it?

Oh, wait, thinking.

Why "think", when you can just ask FT?
