Skype 'home' location
Hi all,
I am very new to Skype. I just set up an account and wanted to add some cash. I don't really remember setting my location to the UK, but maybe I did. Of course this means that I get hit with 15% VAT!
Are there any advantages or disadvantages to the choice of 'home' location other than tax? My other home is Canada, so the tax would probably be about the same. Am I allowed to choose a 'home' that isn't really my home? Is it based on where I am physically located when I buy the credit?
On a related note, does skype have a 'native' currency? It seems to want to charge me in pounds and then convert it to euros, which seems expensive. I'd rather just pay in whatever is the 'native' Skype currency, whatever that may be.
Sorry if these questions don't make much sense .
Thanks,
Dr. PITUK

I am a Canadian in Taiwan right now. Because the credit card that is applied to my Skype account is my Canadian credit card, the charge must be in Canadian dollars.
So my skype account looks odd, it says home is Tainan, Taiwan, CANADA.
I couldn't recharge my account until my home said CA. Something about fraud and security.

I clicked no to thier new terms of confidentiality years ago.
Now, seems like it's impossible for me to join. Hours and hours of trying had me give up.
as for Skype,
Last year I bought time (Canadian Card, from Thailand). The Skype balance went through as €10 Euros. Sometime during my summer home, in Canada, it magically changed to CDN$.
I don't care what exchange rate they use, as long as I can make my calls.
