Best mobile web browsing solution currently available
I have read that some people are pretty happy with browser on the Nokia E61. I havent tried that one but have been using Opera on a Windows Mobile 5 and was considering getting the Smartphone version for my SDA. How does Opera on the Windows family compare to E61 browsing? Are there other solutions that are better and give more full featured browsing to allow things like shopping? Thanks for any info.

I assume you want an all-in-one solution? If not, then take a look at the Nokia 770 internet tablet. It has wifi and Bluetooth and a pretty excellent browser.

I have yet to find a good browser for Windows mobile

Although I HATE the device with a passion, the PPC-6700 (or similar from someone other than sprint) is the only cell-based option I've found that is decent....but I wouldnt recommend one to my worst enemy.

Hmm, that Nokia 770 looks pretty interesting although I keep telling myself I want to carry fewer devices. What is the problem with the PPC-6700? I was considering an HTC TyTn which Im guessing is similar to the PPC-6700. Would the browser on the E61 be better than Opera on a Win Mobile 5 device? Does the E61 let you shop on Amazon for instance? Thanks again for the help.

I am now using the Nokia E61 for Internet, usally in bed for several hours at night! In it, I have also installed Opera Mini and the Mobile Opera. By comparing the three, the E61 HTML browser operates like a regular one. That means I can do a lot of things like doing the fare search and get all the available flights for selection. EXACTLY like the Microsoft or Firefox one. The two Operas are just for other mobile phones which have WAP browser.
For example, if I use the E61 to browse the FlyerTalk Forums, I can view, login, and write messages which I did while walking off the subway. I can retrieve my Itn. from UA.bom. I can book tickets. (Some sites disallow non-regular browser access though, like Banks) The difference between an HTML browser is that it can interpret the HTML pages while the WAP 2.0 browser cannot do. e.g. Accessing a pull-down menu bar, the E61 is like a regular browser, mouse over the menu, the menu will expand; in Opera Mini or Mobile Opera, the phone will display every single item in that pull-down menu bar. If the bar has a total of a hundred items, they will display them all in a vertical manner.
I have never used the Amazon typed of sites before so I have no opinion on it. However, if the E61 can be used to book ticket, retrieve my file from UA and present it on the phone just like the regular browser, I do not see the difference. The trick is: 1. HTML interpreter; 2. JavaScript interpreter; 3. Cache usage; 4. Display flash items. I think the only drawback that the E61 has is its memory. Last night, when I access the UA.bom (beta) the E61 freezes after displaying almost all the available routings and has a message said: Memory low. This is the only time I ever encounter such situation.
That full version of Mobile Opera, I will delete it. It is useless for me. I will keep the Opera Mini for my overseas trips because it has the ability to just display text so that I can save my GPRS charges.
Oh, I just accessed Amazon.com. By comparing the two, the FireFox on PC and HTML browser on E61, the same. With the Tab and all the things to sell. I thought Amazon only sell books! Forget about Windows Mobile 5.0. I have a co-worker specialized in networking and internet stuff. His WM 5.0 is no use to me because it cannot interpret the basic pull down menu bar.

Wow, thanks a lot. I ordered one today, although before seeing this. I feel even better about it after reading this. And by the way, I ordered my unlocked E61 from Amazon

Oh, remember to download that Google Map or Earth also to have the access to map and satellite pictures. The E61 may not come with the PDF viewer so you have to download it. One more, be sure to download the 3GP converter (not the Nokia one) to convert you DVDs to 3GP format QVGA High Quality 15 fps 200x300. Also, order the AD-15 stereo converter for true stereo sound. Have fun!
Thanks. I already have unlimited data. I will get the rest also!

I finally nail down the apparatus to use the airline power for Nokia E61 on the plane, thanks to FTers advises. Don't forget the Empower or airline power to 12v cigarette receptor + cigarette power adaptor for E61 too! So that you can enjoy watching movies, listening to MP3 or AAC tracks, or doing Quick Office works on the plane. I will have a long long layover at JFK next 2 week for my early morning 6:25 am flight. I plan to use this E61 for my movies and songs, and Wi-Fi for Internet access (if I can get it, don't know how) at JFK. Never try it before though, I meant the JFK Wi-Fi access.
Come to think of it, E61's Wi-Fi access and 3G for Japan are more important to me than the HSDPA in E62. Initially, I thought the 2.5 mm phone connector were in stereo but not. You still need that converter thing hanging from the phone.

Anyone have the Nokia E60? I was just sent one and am getting ready to set it up. Have not seen any reports on it. A little large for my taste, and is replacing my Orange SPV500, whose form-factor I love. But the addition of WiFi compels me to make the switch.
Interested in hearing any opinions about this new device.

What could've been the most amazing Cingular 3G phone to date they absolutely crippled. The firmware upgrade fixed the E61's SIP client... I'm still trying to figure out Smartroaming, etc but even if I have to manually configure a hotspot it is WORTH it to be able to use my Asterisk server from the same handset without switching modes or anything like that. Congrats on figuring out the Empower issue! I find more uses for my E61 seemingly weekly. Just bought the Route 66 GPS software and the Nokia LD-W3 GPS bluetooth adapter and it is AWESOME! No more renting Neverlost...
Phone does a wonderful job running the software too, doesn't bog down, finds routes and reroutes quickly... I'm impressed. Now if they just had 4-8 GB miniSD cards.... I'd heard they were integrating the WAP and HTML browsers with this upgrade but unless I select the Services 'browser', I can't use WAP.

Argg. Same question. Amazon ended up canceling my order for the E61, they said they stopped carrying them, and I didnt reorder. Im still looking for a good mobile browser. After having my hopes for the N800 shot down in flames
Im wondering if I should reorder the E61? What is the latest on mobile borwsers? Is the WM6 IE going to be good or is the E61 still the best solution. Thanks for any updated information.

^ It would be really nice to be able to use all the features out there on various web sites.
