Friendly reminder: Backup your bookmarks.

My Firefox finally let me down. I don't know what happened, but it stopped responding (couldn't even shut down) so I forced it off. Now, I started it up and lost all of my bookmarks

Fortunately, I had a backup copy exported from before from March. Unfortunately, I lost my farecompare links

Save yourself some grief!

If you trust Google you could install the Google Browser Sync tool. It encrypts all your settings, passwords, bookmarks and history and syncs it to their servers. You can even have it sync in real time between 2 pc's (like work and home).

I am not much of a paranoid nutter, so I trust Google with my info

..or even store them on line, as I do with yahoo. Nice to be able to access them anywhere in the world.

And then they can mine your data and submit it to the government when they ask for it (ala AOL). Fun

Dude, bookmarks are so Web 1.0. Moved to del.icio.us for all my bookmarking and I love it!

I decided to give this a try and may be particularly dense this morning, but I don't understand how to get my old bookmarks to be a part of this system and how to get my previous links to show up across the top of the command bar. Have been all over the FAQ for del.icio.us.

Oops, found the way to get my links back, but at the expense of an extra line now with just the "del.icio.us" and "tag" icons. Effectively reduces the screen size just to have those two buttons occupy a whole line...?

Friendly reminder: Back up your everything!

I now regularly back up to an external FireWire drive at least once a week. More frequently if I'm working on something fairly intensive. Finally losing a drive and 7 months of un-uploaded pictures a couple years ago taught me a lesson after never having a personal drive ever die before.

I use foxmarks. It sync's everything across multiple firefoxes, or just does backups.

I use the del.icio.us Complete to make is simple to add a bookmark with right-click in Firefox. After reading this thread I tried the sidebar out and didn't think it was so useful to me. I'd rather ctrl-l into the address bar and type the URL to run my search on del.icio.us than pick up my hand and move to the trackpad or whatnot. Just a personal quirck.

I was using something else to synch my delicious bookmarks with my browser bookmarks but I seem to have stopped using that at some point.

SO many choices but backup is all about convenience to make it happen on the frequyence it needs to occur

Buy a Maxtor
The shared Storage plus is my favorite
Shared Storage Plus
Or the One Touch

One Touch
Either way set it to back up the directories wiht all yrou data (include all the ones buried deep in the Windowz tree

I use Karen's Replicator (free)
Replicator and have it back up daily any time I am connected ie not travelling. WOrst case I loose from that point. More important stuff gets posted to a USB key while travellign or uploaded or even e-mailed to myself via gmail for extra resislince.
Favorites used to be ab ig dela but mostly google search has repalced my 700 off favorites that I keep
