WiFi allowed on Planes?

I thought that wireless devices were not allowed on planes, but I just read about the Austrian airlines have a wireless internet service in their business class. So is wifi allowed on planes? I'm curious if I can use some Nintendo DS Lite's with wireless on my flights.

Aircraft equipped with Boeing's Connexion service use WiFi for connectivity. I imagine the access points have been specially shielded to prevent any interference with flight systems (if such interference is even possible).

I imagine if you wi-fi with another person using handhold game consoles or via ad-hoc wireless mode on your laptop, nobody's going to know.

Just don't taunt the guy two rows up when you win.

SEA_Tigger is right. Lufthansa had this for a very long time. SQ also has this
and EK has something similar.. but not exactly. And a few others have this
service too.

Austrian is not the new one to this WiFi arena.

So I assume WiFi isn't going to cause interference or something. They always tell you to turn off cellphones, pagers, etc...

There are several threads on this. There is no conclusive evidence that
cell phones or any other portable devices would cause any interference .
