Thanks for the link; it looks interesting. I have been very impressed with the hardware I have purchased from Microsoft to date!

Didn't they sell the hardware division that makes mice and keyboards?

In that flash movie, they even managed to work "vista" in too.

Well, the keyboard is being designed "for Vista". I read this week that MS is even working on a special "Vista Monitor" so I can only assume we'll see more VistaReady hardware coming out of Redmond...

Call me a purist, but a curved keyboard does not appeal to me in the least. The muscle memory in my fingers is very accustomed to a "normal" keyboard.

Microsoft keyboards generally

To take the thread on a slight detour:

I've been looking at purchasing a new external keyboard, probably one of the MS ergonomic ones. One I was looking at was in the 6000 series, but there were several comments on several websites about problems, particularly with the space bar. I have a few specific questions below, but if anyone has strong feelings (good or bad, though I realize that strong feelings are rare on this board ) about any of the MS ergonomic keyboards, I'd like to hear them.

With my current Microsoft Wireless Elite keyboard, I have to remember to hit the F lock key each time the computer boots in order to use the "traditional" function keys (F2=Edit, etc.). Since the keyboard needs to be replaced, I didn't try bothering with the workaround programs which are out on a few sites. One person commented that he thought that MS had changed this on more recent keyboards, so that, on booting, the F Lock is as it was when the computer was shut down. Can anyone confirm that the F lock on newer MS keyboards works like that?

Also, on the newer MS keyboards (though I didn't see it on the 8000 in Scott's link), there is a slider on the left side of the keyboard to zoom in. Can this be turned off? On my current keyboard is a scroll wheel which I have taped over to keep it from moving the screen when some papers touch it (as far as I can determine, I can't deactivate the scroll wheel on the keyboard without also deactivating the scroll wheel on the mouse, a function I use).

Thanks.

The Optimus (or something like it) would be more like the ultimate keyboard for me - if it ever saw the light of day.

Going from English to German to Korean to FPS would be great.

...uh...

I'm trying to price this object.
I thought I saw a "buy now" link, but cannot re find.
When I search for it from the MSN products page, identifying it as "wireless backlit keyboard" (how many of these can there be that MS sells?) I get no hits.

Didn't anyone else notice this part of the product description...
virtually no interference
"Virtually" implies that there *is* interference!

Got one of these yesterday

It's awesome, I just wish that it wasn't such a pain to install if installing over a different BT keyboard setup.

Why oh why is Bluetooth such a PITA?

Thank you.. that made my morning!

Certainly looks nicer than the current MCE board...ug-ly.. and it only backlights the MCE keys...

Please let us know how it pans out...pretty tempted, but quite a lot pay if my current keyboard is working fine...

As for Chinese sweat shops... have any of you actually visited a "proper" factory that meets standards??

I have visited both and I can tell you line of differntiation is not as wide as you think.

Empoyee turnover is HUGE...if they disagree, slow down, FIRE EM!
