Which Tom Tom GPS Model Does This Listing Refer To?

This is from the CO Travel Club email...Offering this GPS System for 40,000 miles. Only problem is that the model number is missing.

TomTom® Portable Car Navigator Unit, $600 value

Enjoy the convenience of this portable GPS navigational system. Features a 4" LCD touchscreen, a 1GB SD memory card with detailed maps of the United States and Canada, clear spoken instructions, a Lithium-ion battery, and can connect to your iPod® so you can listen to MP3s or Podcasts. Includes a carry case, a home dock, a windshield dock, and a car charger.

Dimensions: 4-2/5" W x 3-1/10" H x 2-1/2" D

From TomTom.com, there appear to be 4 models - 910, 510, 700 & 300. The list prices are $799, $599, $699 and $499 respectively. The 300 and 700 can be ruled out because they don't offer an iPod connector. The 910 is listed for $799, which could rule it out. This leaves the 510, list price $599. Only problem is that this model is not yet available, according to TomTom.com

Could it be that the listing refers to the 910 but has a mistaken list price? If not, assuming that the listed model is indeed a 510, do I give up a lot wrt the 910? I really don't care for the real time traffic reports and other features. However, the built in hard drive is something I do think I can use, but I can always hope that future SD cards will have a vastly increased capacity.

Finally, do you think 40,000 miles for this item is a good value?

Thanks...

That has to be the 510 because it only has maps for Canada and the US. The 510 IS available at the moment.

Thanks.

What are your thoughts about the 510? AFAIK, Tom Tom units are way better than Magellan or Garmin GPS units. Not sure how the 510 stacks up.

Also, think 40,000 miles is a good deal for it?

There has been a string of Tom Tom ads that didn't include the model number, I'm beginning to wonder if something is going on with bait and switch (which it can't be because you don't know what's being advertised). I noticed two of them this weekend.

How is that bait and switch? Nothing is being sold... Unless you walk into a store and just ask for a "TomTom" you can pick the device that suits you best.

It's not really bait and switch, but by not stating what model is at that price, they don't have to have any at all when you get there. Sorry, sold out of those, but we have this at a few dollars more.

In the states where they don't have to issue rain checks, it lets them offer a sale and not have any at all of something, and it's virtually impossible to prove, and it makes comparison shopping impossible.

Good points. Despite making great products the TomTom marketing and support really does lack. Accessories are hard to find (Circuitcity didn't get TTGO300 stuff in till the same month the 510/910 were released).
