Yeah, pretty much. I find the E-mail subscriptions to be more useful. It doesn't give you the text of the forums, but it lets you quickly scan for new and updated topics. I can then quickly read the ones I want online.
Some forums like MR and S.P.A.M. are great with RSS. Discussion ones aren't so much.
