Help with wifi Card Purchase

I picked up a used Thinkpad and would like to add a wifi card.
What should I be buying and what are the differences:

802.11G vs. 802.11B vs. ?

B is pretty much obsolete for new hardware. Go with G, unless you find a free deal for a B at ecost.

here's an 802.11G USB adapter for $8 ($28 before rebates).

I've bought a couple USB adapters with various obscure names and haven't had any problems.

Depending on what model Thinkpad it is, you might want to consider installing an internal card. They cost a little more (around $55 on ebay), but it might be worth it for the convenience.

If your Thinkpad has the antennae preinstalled (not all of them do), your best bet would be of the Thinkpad internal cards that support 802.11G.

Barring that, I have had excellent results with Netgear products.
