You have it backwards, I'm afraid. You don't unlock a SIM, you unlock the phone. And 30 seconds with google will tell you everything you need to know to do it yourself.

Hi,

I've succesfully done it. Just call up T-mobile and tell them you have been a customer for ....years (I hope it's been a long time, or else they might noy do it for you)
Tell them you are travelling abroad for a while and would like to use your phone with a local SIM. They will start the unlocking process for you.

It worked for me!

Well, good luck with that. I spent month looking for a solution to this issue, so I thought I'd save you a bit of time.
Simple solution, isn't it?

If you'll look at the OP you'll see that the poster has a Nokia. Thus the link.

The search would also turn up the fact that T-Mobile will unlock ANY T-Mobile handset for the asking if you've had an account with them for at least 90 days.

I am a T-Mobile customer. I always have my phones unlocked as soon as I can. That way if I upgrade my phone ans wish to give my phone away to a friend, it's already unlocked for them to use any SIM card they choose.
