By-passing hotel cable channels

I stay a lot in Marriott hotels; they all seem to take a very limited sub-set of DirectTV to play on the room TV. If I'm a DirectTV subscriber at home is there any gadget I can get that will plug into the coax in my hotel room to give me a wider selection (I'm talking legit here, of course)?

no, the dtv channels are slaved to one ch and one ch only in the "head end".
Each DTV ch has its own rcvr and those outputs are fed onto the channel lineup you see in the room.

That DTV rcvr(as you know) has its own serial number as well as a card that has its own acct number. The two are married together and are allowed to receive one channel only. All other channels are just dtv commercials.

So for as many DTV ch's you see their are that many rcvrs.
The most I have seen is about 30 Ch at the new Hilton in Anaheim.

Not directly via the TV, but if you're using broadband you can try using a Slingbox to watch your home channels on your laptop. No personal experience, but sounds neat.

I also have DirecTV at home and based on the lengthy slingbox thread in this forum, I purchased one and set it up. It worked! I don't know how, but it does. No more junky hotel cable!
