Google Base - another beta, more rabid speculation
Google Base - another beta, more rabid speculation
Google Inc has partially launched a database-driven search service that allows classified ads to be posted, exciting its fans in the media and blogosphere, many of whom promptly predicted that eBay's days are numbered. Oh, and that SQL is history too.
Screenshots of a service called Google Base started circulating after bloggers who closely track the company discovered that the domain base.google.com temporarily resolved to a landing page for the pre-launch service.
The service was partially live again at time of writing, but had quite a lot of dead links and didn't appear to fully function.
"Google Base is Google's database into which you can add all types of content. We'll host your content and make it searchable online for free," the landing page reads. "You can describe any item you post with attributes, which will help people find it when they search Google Base..."

They should have called it "Omnigoogle" or "google universe".

The battle with MS heats up!!!! LOL!
This complimentary new "Google Docs & Spreadsheets" combines a spreadsheet application that Google formerly introduced in June with the word processing program called previous called "Writely."
It continues Google's attempt to offer a suite of software apps tethered to Internet connections rather than a given computer's hard drive.
MS execs will not sleep well tonight!
Yeah it isn't [fill in blank], and yes, you get what you pay for, etc.
But hey, as every flyertalker knows, FREE is ... well... FREE!

Eh.... point well taken but...
Not everyone, I assure you, really wants to work all that much on the aircraft!

Meanwhile....FWIW, in a page seemingly taken out of Microsofts book:
A hacker broke into Google's main official blog and posted a false message saying that the company had decided to cancel a joint project with eBay.
The intrusion marks the second time this year that Google's official blog has fallen into unauthorized hands. In March, Google staffers deleted the so-called Google Blog by mistake and someone briefly took control of the Web address.

Again, what is the point of this. On the one hand, you seem to be trumpeting Google, and they you turn around and ridicule them?I am SO confused.

Well, only you can answer that question for yourself, I'd imagine!
Personally they may well make my travel life better. I'd use this technology in the airport lounges, just for one example.
Oh, concerning the trumpet..... nah, I havent played at all since high school!
I'm not trumpeting nor ridiculing anyone or anything. I'll leave that, as usual, to others!

Have you tried Picasa (also a Google program)? Editing capability is somewhat limited, but its free. You can certainly stored and shared photos here just like many other web photo services. Shutterfly and Gallery come to mind.
