Hi-I live in Seattle, thus I have ran into some problems. In reading about FM transmitters for my Nano, most say that due to congestion, the stations might not come in well in metropolitan areas. Can someone please help me in deciding which one to buy. I personally like the looks of the transmitters v. the thingys that slide into your tape deck. I do understand that the tape deck ones will produce better sound quality (am I right?). Please help...I am soooo lost.

Tape deck adapters will alway provide better sound than a portable FM transmitter. I have never been happy with the FM units as they dont seem powerful enough (except for my XM2GO, which has an internal FM transmitter with more power behind it.

Well, I just got my Belkin transmitter with my Nano. So far, I would say mixed reviews. It has 4 frequency options and none of them are completely clear around here. If I lay it in the passenger seat, sometimes it is great and other times I get static. I have been hanging the transmitter and the Nano over the rearview mirror and that seams to work pretty well.

I just ordered one of these, for my Mini (the seller's website says it works for a Nano also). Outside of what I read on some of the links available, it's a crapshoot if this is going to be effective in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles. It is notable that there is a weak station on 88.1 (which is adjacent to the transmit frequency) with a transmitter about 40 miles from my house. 87.7 is not used in Los Angeles (this is the audio feed for TV Channel 6, where the nearest transmitter is in Tijuana, Mexico).

I'm willing to take the chance, as my wife's new car does not have a cassette player, so my existing adapter is useless for that vehicle.

I have tried many of them, and the only decent one was the Monster brand iCar Play wireless plus.

I have the Belkin Tunecast II and it is great, it allows you to choose any frequency you want on the fm dial. Much better than having to choose one of the 4 preset ones on the cheaper unit.

Problem is, most newer cars don't have tape players anymore. I was a big fan of tape adapters in the 80's when I did a lot of traveling to SoCal, and had a Sony digital audio tape recorder. It sounded great - always better than the FM transmitter counterpart. But, that was a long time ago.. I've since converted over to MP3. I've also got an XM Roady2 in my car that is hardwired into the AUX input of my Panasonic headunit.

I did some more hunting:
I have a 02 4Runner and there is a "factory receiver ipod interface" that I can buy so that my ipod basically becomes a cd changer and plays through the stereo. Does anyone have any experiance with this? It sounds like the best option since it suposedly works like a changer.

I was also leaning to the Belkin tunecast...

I'll put in a vote for the Newer Technology Roadtrip+ mentioned above as well. Works only on 87.9 but works well in Chicago area and supposedly most other places.

Every once in a while there is mild static, but oddly doesn't seem to be correlated with location. It's fairly cheap, simple to use, charges, and works fine stowed away using the power port in the armrest.
