My university has contract using McAfee for years now. I used to have McAfee on my personal and work (school property) computers, since I could have it for "free" due to the group contract.
About 4-5 years ago, my work computer was infected with a vicious virus that destroyed all my email that I ever saved for work. McAfee didn't catch it and I lost every important work email in that machine.
You guess it. I walked out on McAfee the very same day and I've never looked back.
ps. I am on (free) AVG since then. Have been very happy about it until recently (if you frequent this forum, you should know about the hiccups of AVG.). Still undecided whether to move on to a different free alternative yet. But our "resident" FTer experts already suggested some good free replacements for my hunt.
