Help Downloading WMP to a Mac
I don't know why but it just won't work....I'm running Tiger and trying to put Windows Media Player 9 for Mac OS X on my system -- reluctantly I must add though
After I download the file it shows up as "Windows Media.sitx" and when I double click that, Tiger asks me to pick a program to open it with -- I don't know what i'm doing wrong. Thanks.
As an aside -- WMP won't hurt my mac will it? THanks.

It's unlikely that WMP will hurt anything.

I've downloaded and installed Windows Media Play on several Macs with Tiger. They just automatically installed for me. I don't recall ever having to unstuff anything manually. Don't know why your download and install is different.

You ought to find Stuffit in your Applications folder and/or Stuffit Expander in its Utilities subfolder. Either should do the job.
If you can't get the Open dialogue to pick one of them, try one of these:
1. Select the file, choose Get Info from the File menu (or Command-I), and use Open With (a bit more than halfway down) to pick one of them.
2. Drag the file onto either program's icon.
3. Launch either one of them, then drag the file onto that program's icon in the dock or select it from that program's Open dialogue box.
That said, I agree with PremEx - I don't know why it doesn't just open.

Edit: I just tried yet again and the same thing. Windowsmedia.sitx downloaded to the desktop and then when I double click it: "There is no default application specified to open the document windowsmedia.sitx" I don't get it......

Tiger does not come with StuffIt any longer. Panther had it pre-installed but Apple dropped it when Tiger was released.
You can download it from StuffIt homepage (I think this link will take you to correct page right away: http://www.stuffit.com/mac/expander/).

I just hope we are going to see less and less those compressed files requiring StuffIt.
