I can recommend that you not use an Ambicom USB BT dongle. Drivers seem to be flaky at best.
I've got a Logitech DiNovo media desktop (BT wireless keyboard and mouse) - the BT hub is in the mouse charging base. Overall, I've been pretty happy with it. Never used it in headset mode, but it pairs to my cellphone fine for file transfers.

I use both a CompUSA branded and a D-Link bluetooth USB dongle. You should be able to get a BT dongle for about $20 (usually after rebate).
Generally pretty easy to install, but don't try and mix and match once installed as the serial number will screw up the drivers. Oh, and you generally don't want to use the BT drivers installed by Microsoft in XP but the Widicomm drivers that ship with your dongle.

It's a real shame about how the Widcomm drivers are locked to a specific device. Do they really need to be so anal about it? It's not like you can have BT without the BT hardware adaptor.

I use a Trust BT 180 dongle that I bought in Paris. It took some work to tweak it (and disable the Microsoft drivers), but after reconfiguring my laptop and installing widcomm drivers -- viola, it worked fine with my Cardo 500 BT headset.
