Swiss SIM Card Question

I'll be in GVA for a week on Business.. does anyone have visibility into the GSM sim card market... certain brands, etc. I would prefer to pick one up at the Airport if possible.

Heading to Les Arcs to Ski as well, will the Swiss Sim card work in France. The one I had in Madrid did not work outside of spain.

Cheers

You can get prepaid Swiss SIM cards at Orange or Sunrise. I've used my Orange SIM card (which I got at Zuerich) throughout Europe without problem. I don't think there's an Orange shop at GVA Cointrin but there is one on the Rue du Rhne near the Pont de la Machine. Orange requires prepaid SIM card users to provide passport information; it a registration requirement to active your mobile number.

Swisscom, Sunrise, and Orange are the 3 swiss GSM operators. Sunrise has the most attractive prepaid rates, Swisscom the least.

All their prepaid SIM's support roaming, but with very unattractive rates, IIRC 2CHF/min in France.

You can buy a prepaid SIM for any of these operators at most electronics shops, including the Interdiscount store at the departure level of the GVA airport (top floor, just across from the emigration/passport control booths).

Swiss GSM cards will expire 12 months after last use.

Refills can be bought in stores, but also at post offices and train station vending machines. If you link a credit card to your number, refills can also be done over the phone.
