Cards on the table time:

I have no ties to any record companies, and no business relationships or other economic ties to the recording industry. In short, I have nothing to gain or lose regardless of whether anybody uses allofmp3.com. I hope that certain others also will state any economic interests they have relating to allofmp3.com or the music recording industry in general.

I saw something about gift certificates on allofmp3.com. If these are transferable, I see a biz opp...

allof

there wouldnt be such a disscussion if the labels would sell the prices at allofmp3 prices.

maybe you think that 1USD per song in the itunes shop is fair?
no it isnt. its too expensive.

copies were made all the time , tapes, DAT, etc. etc.

but computer copies did change everything, 1:1 copies, mp3 , mp4 , AAC, etc etc.

the point is, you can get all music content for free if it is mainstream music.
the labels have to realize and think from a user point of view, users know how to get music for free , so how can we get them to pay for the music?

DRM has failed, and will never be sucessful, nobody likes restrictions, if you buy a CD, you want to use it in my car, mobile phone, laptop where you want. why is download music restricted.

so USERS dont PAY, so how can you make users pay? you have to bring down the price so users will pay , even it is only 10 -20cents for one song.

the music industry has failed already 10 years ago, and they are still too slow in adapting business models and to be more flexible.

if you once used allofmp3, i think you will be impressed, the allof search in the alltunes tool is amazingly good, if the labels start using allof as a platform for selling music , it would be a win/win situation for us users and the labels.

the key is to let users pay for content , and making illegal downloads to much of a hassle.

boy if i was headhunted by a music company , well i would change the whole music business model and make that companys profits go rocket high :)

And now, a brief musical interlude....

Don't Download This Song

The site was supposed to be shutdown by June 1; however, it hasn't happened yet.

If you haven't checked your account recently...

* If you have spent more than $300 (excluding bonuses), check out the Assistance section of the webpage. You may have an invitation to something.
* If you check your Balances section, you may have an invitation to switch your account to a site called mp3sparks.com. It will be an instantaneous switch (including AllTunes), and you will be able to refill your account once again.
* If you have neither of the above, log into allofmp3.ru and try refilling.

I wish I could say the same but I can't.

The main issue with allofmp3.com isn't the price as much as they are paying to a royalty collection agency that is not recognised by the international collection agency association. ROM (or whatever they are called) got kicked out of the association because they didn't send the money onwards. When you buy from allofmp3.com the artist will receive 0. If the practice spreads on a global level eventually there will be no more music.

I'm currently fighting Italian mechanical rights agency who has not reported back to other agencies for an album that was released two years ago. I've been told that it can take 5 years to wrangle mechanical rights out of Italy.

Also, had a conversation with someone just the other day. The pay out to an artist for a song downloaded from iTunes is apparently 5.5 pence. Yes, that is five an a half pence. Approximately 3 US cents. If this is true my instant question is of course "who is pocketing the cash?"

The record companies are screaming, claiming poverty. They are not poor. Their profits are not as high as they used to be so shareholders get upset when dividends are due. The major companies are still making a profit. They find other ways of making sure they cash in on advances by securing rights in their tours and merchandize.

Well, today I found out that my favorite record shop in Toronto is closing down. A lot is due to downloads and internet. Legal and illegal.

Sam the Record Man - RIP.

Thank you for sharing your personal experiences. One quick question... i thought 5.5 pence = 5.5 hundredths of a GBP... which would currently be about 0.11USD. Am I mistaken?

Yes, you are correct. I converted the wrong way.

:) mp3sparks.com is the same exact site as allofmp3.com - they just changed the background colors. I can't get the old site to load so I can transfer my balance though.

There's 8 cents I'll never see again.

Oh, wait...alltunes is still working!

So is there a DRM free, but fairly priced (both to buyer & artist) site anywhere....I got stung by Rhapsody for paid music but DRM kicked in when I was on vacation and couldn't re-sync with MP3 player...

I just tried my allofmp3 login at mp3sparks and it worked directly. No need to access allofmp3 to transfer the balance (which is good since I can't get through to allofmp3)
