Wireless connection disabled by Windows update -- Help Please

We have a wireless Linksys system in the home office. Works perfectly -- till today. Installed a recent Windows update (and can't figure which one did it at this point) and SINCE the installation, the laptop SEES the network and the network SEES the laptop...however it can no longer connect to the internet.

Hubby is about ready to throw it out the window

Any suggestions???

Thanks!

So you can get to the Linksys access point configuration page (192.168.1.1 or whatever) from the laptop, but not access the internet from there? If so that would rule out WEP or wireless issues (I would guess).

If you can't get to the setup page I would try again, disabling WEP to see if that does anything.

I went through a phase 4-6 months ago where I'd lose the network about every week to ten days. Not sure how I solved it - it may have been a firmware or driver update.

For future reference, if you apply a security update you'll usually have to either re-authenticate with the WAP or indicate that you want to connect without security.

Right-click the connection in the tray, choose properties, and check the box that says (something close to) "I want to connect to this network even though it's not secure."

Our Linksys wireless hub and router crashed frequently. Upgrades and tech support were no help. I consulted Internet bulletin boards and friends and the solution is to throw all your Linksys equipment in the garbage and replace it with Netgear. Our Netgear wireless router/hub has been running flawlessly for months.

Did you by any chance update the router with the WPA update from MSFT? That will enable you to set higher security, but, BUT, you must upgrade all componants, drivers for card, drivesr for Acess point and drivers for windows, and drivers for router.
Plan ahead before doing, it may not be worth the hassle either.

QL, this is kind of what I suspect is going on with my Linksys BEFW11S4...it worked for about a week, then went out. Test site 192.168.1.1 shows all is OK, WLAN link and ACT lights come on, but the laptop doesn't pick up the hub/router signal 20 feet away.
An uninstall/reinstall and driver / firmware update check did nothing...the card in the laptop seems to work OK on other wireless networks (i.e. Wayport, Boingo, T-Mobile), but it's also been a hassle connecting at times, like it has a mind of its' own.

I think I'll take your advice and start over...I kind of thought this thing was a POS.

BINGO! He said that IS what happened and it was hours of nitpicking and stress to figure it out and get things back up and 'talking'.

Now, the only thing out of sync is the print server...

Well....you can only update drivers if there ARE updated drivers

Seems we can connect to the internet with the two laptops, but that's it. We have a Linksys print server, Linksys wireless cards, and wireless Linksys hub. They all "work" but not together

Network is totally choked. Nothing talks to anything else. Can't print AT ALL. Things talk to the hub but not each other. Can't see each other or printers -- but all talk to the hub.

My husband put a lot of effort into our wireless system and it's always worked GREAT. He is very knowledgeable about these things and he is SO FRUSTRATED by this

It's brought the whole set up to a standstill and consumes hour after hour.

Did I provide enough info for anyone to have a new suggestion??

I'll sit here with my fingers crossed + HOPE!

I charge $500 per hour, plus travel expenses. I can be there Monday.

If you reboot the hub (or is there a switch/router as well) do things work even if only for a few seconds?
