Possible GPRS Connection Problems

Because the phone line is currently down (we have builders in and they buggered it up) I'm using my T610, a data cable and GPRS to connect my work laptop to the Internet (and yes, I do know the cost). All seems fine (slightly better than modem connection) accept:

i) Every so often, my laptop (NT4 model supplied by employer) beeps.

ii) When I check dial up monitor, it reports 23 CRC errors and 27 hardware errors.

Should I be worried? I've sent and recieved a couple of attachments to/from the office (both causing the beeping and subsequent error reports) and they've come out fine at the other end.

Regards
I

GPRS will always have packet errors and resends, NT4 is just seemingly set up to whine when this happens, you might want to try turning on the "cellular modem" option in the preferences but if your speed it acceptable and connections don't drop then I wouldn't worry about it, NT4's dialup monitor is just a little more advanced than "normal" windows dialup.

As ScottC mentioned... this is normal... XP is a little more forgiving, but even then you can get in out of sync issues and need to reconnect.

If you can add AT commands to the modem init string try adding this:

AT+CGEREP=0

This buffers all modem error reporting and doesn't send any network errors to the computer.

Back to the land of modem now (and soon DSL when work is finished on the house).

Thanks all for the help. As it is basically working (and quite impressively), I think I'll just ignore the problem
