IBM Docking station question
If I remember correctly, in my OMNI thread on desktop vs. laptop there were a couple of FTers using a laptop with a docking or replicator solution.
Ive just ordered a ThinkPad Dock II and have a question on the power supply situation. Does the docking station itself have a built in AC/DC converter or must you procure one separately. Im a little confused because the website only states that the model I bought has a USA/Canada Power cord. Ive used a replicator before, but never a full sized Docking station, so any details/tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks BWatson. Is the internal power supply the IBM standard 100-240 Volts AC...?

I was able to reach Tech support and they confirmed the power supply is in fact 100-240VAC.
So, Im wondering if anybody out there has a hot tip on what gadget I should slide into the additional ultra bay I will now be having. I already have a DVD/CDRW combo on my laptop, so what else is out there? I was thinking of a DVD RW, but Im not sure I have much use for it. What other goodies should I consider?

Unless you watch a lot of DVD's on your laptop in non power accesible places, I dont think I have use for one.

Two years ago I would have agreed with you, but Im not sure that is still valid today. With the extension of battery life, plus the improved availability of power outlets, do you still carry around a second battery?

No way... There is no way I trust any airline to have the power port working that well. If I can only get 2-3 hours out of a battery of working time on even as little as a 4-5 hours flight I'm in trouble. Let alone going across the Pacific without enough power. It doesn't seem to matter what airline I fly, the bad power ports seem to follow me occasionally.</font>
