using a xiaomi in the US?
I have a Xiaomi poco, which i love, but when trying to get a plan from my phone company (Golan, in Israel) for use in the US, I was told it isn't supported. Can anyone verify this?
I presume I could still use my phone with WIFI, but I am reluctant to buy a phone package for cellular and data if the phone doesn't work in the US.
if you are more knowledgeable than I am on this topic (assume this is about everyone), can you suggest alternative ways to manage while in the US?
Thanks

Which Poco do you have? The Xiaomi phones have very limited support of US frequency bands, so that's probably why your phone company says it's not supported. I'd need to know the exact model to know what to recommend. If compatible, you'll probably want to use it on T-Mobile in the US as they don't whitelist, they'll allow pretty much any phone on their network.

According to their website, this supports LTE bands 2, 4 and 5 so should give some coverage in the US as all 3 carriers use bands 2 and 4 as main frequencies (and a little of 5). However you don't have any of the other bands that are key to good coverage (12/17 for AT&T, 12/71 for T-Mobile and 13/66 for Verizon). Without these coverage isn't going to be great, although it will depend a little on exactly where you are.
From memory my Golan SIM used to roam onto T-Mobile, however I'm not 100% sure of that and I no longer have it so I can't check.
