I haven't had an automatic reboot for a long time, ever since disabling "restart this device as soon as possible..." while leaving "Show a notification when you PC requires a restart..." on in the advanced settings. It always displays a notice and asks "reboot now", "schedule reboot", etc.

Worst case, it looks like you can "Pause updates" for 35 days, then manually prepare for and allow updates, then pause it again.

There was a whole thread on this filled with great info… I kept coming back to it every time I set up a new Win10 machine but now it seems to be gone entirely…? It does take registry edits and computer policy edits to truly stop automatic reboots after updates and instead require Windows to ask before rebooting.

Every time MS does a feature update something gets shifted. The auto login (netwizpl) flips from user function to registry to user function way too often. Put it in one place and leave it there. Not even sure how Windows 11 handles it yet.

But yeah, auto-update has been in a regular place for a while.

It only tells me the day it's going to force a reboot.
