Texting from iPhone to Android fail?

I’m sure it’s something on my end. Lately I can’t text from iPhone to someone’s android device over WiFi, but works when I’m simply using my carrier, in this case AT&T. I’m feeling dumb, but this is an issue for my wife and I both. Coverage at our house via AT&T is a joke, which is why I use WiFi when home.

Any advice appreciated.

Does the person you are trying to send a text also have an Apple device. Maybe an iPad?

Update and more info.

First, with wifi calling works 'most' of the time. Everyone in the household has Iphones (5) and they all act the same way so saying its a phone problem doesnt really make sense.

Last night, after reading somewhere else, I tried turning on airplane mode while at the house. I was then able to send and receive regular text messages on my phone! I also received a call on my phone during that time. I passed on the 'trick' to the rest of my family and my daughter, who has the identical phone as me, could not use wifi calling, it came up with a message to turn off airplane mode to make calls.
Having the phone in airplane mode while having WiFi on (to use Wi-Fi calling) may make the difference. If it doesn’t, it could be time to toggle settings back and forth related to WiFi calling, power off the phone and reboot it.

Did your iOS phone devices recently get a system software update? A lot of people recently updated to iOS 15, so maybe there has been a resurgence of this kind of problem?

I’m still 14.8. I’m not a believer in jumping on new software unless it’s a security fix. I’ll try the suggestion you linked tonight.

There might be other things at play: https://www.zdnet.com/article/bandwi...y-ddos-attack/

Bandwidth is a (the?) major player in telecommunications today. Many companies, even large ones, get their services from Bandwidth. Ever use Google Voice? You were using Bandwidth. Microsoft Skype / Teams? Bandwidth. I wouldn't be surprised if the cell carriers were offloading some of their traffic to Bandwidth as well.

I guarantee that Verizon isn't using anyone else's network. They have even embarked on a multibillion dollar capital plan to build their own fiber networks in the top 100 US cities so they can use their own infrastructure to connect small cells, 5G, and business customers. They do not like using others' infrastructure. AT&T and T-Mobile do lease physical infrastructure from others but they would never in a million years give another company access to their networks for IP traffic.

Bandwidth operates in a completely different realm. They provide cloud-based IP comms services (the industry term is communications platform as a service). They compete with the likes of Ringcentral, voip.ms, and others. Nothing to do with how the big 3 cellular carriers route their calls or data. I had actually never heard of them before. They claim they own their own tier 1 network, which probably means they have IRUs on fiber owned by the big companies.
