Trying to get rid of subsciptions - advice
Hi folks!
I'm currently trying to reduce as much as possible the number of subscriptions I hold. I have a fair few and am trying to reduce that dependency.
I've separated those into two main categories, the mandatory ones and the non-mandatory ones. I'm based in the UK.
Mandatory:
->Electricity
->Gas
->Water
->Internet
Non-mandatory:
->Landline Phone
->Cell phone: one for the wife, one for myself and a French line for the 2 of us
->Amazon Prime
I've already tried to reduce the UK cellphone ones to basic subscriptions that suit our needs, for the French line we kinda need it since we're making regular calls home to our families and use the line when in France.
Alternatives: Whatsapp, Viber, Skype?
Broadband-wise: thought about replacing it with 4G, though the prices are eye-wateringly expensive, and it's essentially replacing one subscription with another
Amazon Prime: One of the easiest to remove, however I'm looking for a legal pay as you watch streaming service instead. Any thoughts on it? WE occasionally watch series (one episode or 2 per week max), one movie a week max, kids cartoon are loaded onto a hard drive (easier for parental controls)
Any thoughts, ideas?
Thanks in advance!

Replace the Landline with a VoIP solution that plugs into your broadband router. I use Sipgate basic in the UK. It's PAYG, but in the 4 years I've had it, my 10 credit is now down to about 7.50
You can buy an adaptor that allows you to use your existing handsets, eg :-
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cisco-SPA112-2-Port-Phone-Adapter/dp/B00684PN54?ref_=s9_apbd_omwf_hd_bw_bO7nr9&pf_rd_r=13902EG77FN27B4C9YBC&pf_rd_p=8fe5a3ab-d5b2-5c84-88f9-958746aabbc7&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-11&pf_rd_t=BROWSE&pf_rd_i=356492011
Or, buy a package including a base station and handsets (this is what I've got) :-
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gigaset-A540-Cordless-Phone-Bundle/dp/B01589JF1C/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=gigaset+voip+handsets&qid=1581335363&s=telephone&sr=1-4

It is possible that Brexit will affact this, but I've understood that recent (ok, already few years old) EU regulation lowered mobile phone network roaming fees significantly and thus I would assume that costs of using foreign mobile networks in EU should not be that expensive any more and thus you might be able to eliminate your French mobile phone subscription. But I guess it is best to first check the prices from your service provider as there can be some limitations on how much usage outside home network is allowed (without extra fees).

Thanks for the replies!
A few points here:
1. Currently paying short of 23 per month including line rental. Cheapest contract at the moment is with Post Office at 15 per month. As we can do away with the landline, we could technically reduce it by switching providers.
2. Would SIPGATE be available on mobiles as well? The idea would be to have a FRench number on which friends and family can call us on and where we could call them back on without incurring any additonnal fees
3. As Brexit is not finalised, I have no idea how EU fees could work, but if doing away with the French line people in France would still incur fees calling us. We could potentially downsize the line to a basic plan, but it turns out to be more expensive than the current one in the end (mobicartes in France are shockingly expensive)

If you need broadband at home, you have the following options - 4 or 5G service from a cellphone provider (some are offering unlimited data), traditional landline as that still has the best geographical coverage or Vrigin Media if they are in your neighbourhood. There are smaller providers like HyperOptic but they are mostly present in places like London as they prefer to wire up large apartment buildings. By the way, the cheapest service is also the slowest at around 10 Mbps. If you have more than 1-2 devices streaming simultaneously, this may not be enough. A great site for UK related deals is hotukdeals.com which will help you find some cheap plans (as also moneysavingexpert.com) - I don't have any stake in these sites apart from being a satisfied user.
For calling within the family, is WhatsApp a serious option given that almost everyone now has at least a basic smartphone? That will eliminate the need for a French number. As for Brexit related roaming, different service providers have taken a different commercial stance, so you will have to check separately.
