IOW, no dual 5G before iPhone 13 at least. Hmm, so if I turn off the eSIM, I will have no problems toggling it off and on so that it's only using one network at a time? I have not seen anything definitive regarding the concurrent dual sim access to 5g on new iPhones. If you have any supporting information, it would be appreciated. |

I've had my 12 for a couple of months and a couple of cheap wireless charging pads from Amazon (varying brands). No issues until last week when wireless charging didn't work on either charging pad until I restarted the phone. Happened twice, hasn't happened since. Could possibly be related to an iOS update?
|
So is there consensus that Apple has a duty to work with non Apple chargers? Shouldn't it be the other way around?
I certainly remember when their products would not work reliably with non Apple charging cables a few years back. My desktop combo watch/Airpod/Qi phone charger pad gets hot if I charge my phone with a medium thick case on it, but stays room temp without the case. I don't blame Apple for that. Maybe your case is the issue. |

Last night, my 12 would not work with a Qi charger. A restart resolved the Qi charging error. This indicates an iOS issue connecting to the Qi charger when the reboot resolves the problem. I have not seem any mention of magsafe charging problems. Supposedly Apple is aware of the problem and is working to resolve the Qi charging issue.
That said... most of the issues I've seen with QI chargers were more related to the new dimensions of the iPhone 12 phones + a combination of "foreign object detection" on some chargers not liking the presence of the magnets in the phone. For me properly aligning my phone on QI chargers has always been my biggest headache with the technology, something nicely solved by Magsafe OEM chargers as well as all of the 3rd party magsafe compatible chargers flooding the market now. |

Waiting for the iPhone to become Windows like with a blue screen of death 🤣🤞 |
I'm running iOS 14.5 Beta on my iPhone 12 Pro Max and have not had any problems or wireless charging glitches. But then I never had any with the wireless charger in my car or the desktop charger all the way back to my XR. I wonder what is the common link? I had been on 14.4 for a while without any issues.
|
Actually 14.5 is suppose to enable dual 5G now.

There is definitely an issue with at least some iPhones. I know my previous pixel 4XL from google was also quite finicky with chargers and alignment. Even with my OEM "Pixel Stand" the darn phone would often refuse to charge and give me a message "realign phone for wireless charging." That is on the OEM stand for the OEM phone!! IMO Magsafe and its knockoffs are a life-saver when it comes to QI. I always hated QI charging previously. I now have 4 Apple Magsafe chargers (one on each nightstand, and one in each car) and other than the one night my wife's phone needed a reboot they have been working perfectly!! Furthermore, I have two non-apple 3rd party charger with embedded magsafe compatible magnets, they have also been working brilliantly. |
I traded in my eligible iPhone X for an iPhone 12 Pro in November as part of a $700 trade-in promotion. AT&T let me know today (3+ months after they received the phone) that I would be receiving $0 trade-in credit because my calling plan was erroneously never upgraded to an eligible plan for the $700 trade in promotion. Has anyone experienced this hiccup and successfully gotten their due rebate?

Yes, one of my lines from November received all the back credits for 5 months on the last bill. I had to call trade in support which couldn’t explain why the credits were never applied. They trade in rep told me to speak in person with the store in north Georgia but I live in north Texas. I don’t the hiccup which caused the delay but it was eventually resolved after 5 bill cycles. All my other lines received credits on the 2nd bill cycle.
Anyone have luck getting this resolved with an in-store rep? |

Anyone have luck getting this resolved with an in-store rep? I went nuclear and filed a complaint with the FCC. Within 24 hours, I received a call from a person from the "office of the president" of ATT. I know he's not really in the office of the president, but the customer care he extended to us was second to none. He picked up the phone each time I called and gave us daily updates until the issue was resolved. Not only did the credits properly post on the next bill, we received a one-time statement credit in the amount of the missing credits as an additional service recovery. Long story short... if you aren't getting anywhere, file with the FCC. |
I tried out the iphone 12 but wasn't with 5g speeds nor camera or video. Maybe next the 13 wows me maybe not.

We traded in our old phones and received new 12's back in November. We never received our credits. Each month, we'd use the chat feature (paper trail) and the agent would say "I see everything, the credits will come next month". Finally in March, a chat agent says "We never received your old phones, so you're responsible for the full price of the new phone." I shared with them the USPS tracking info saying the items were delivered. The chat agent pushed back saying "all that shows is a box was delivered, not the contents."

For those who has T-Mobile, starting April 18, you can trade in iPhone 11 for free upgrade to iPhone 12.
https://www.t-mobile.com/news/un-car...des-the-iphone You can also trade in any phone (including old flip phone) to free Samsung A32 5G. |
Miss Swede bought an iPhone 11 128GB in absolute pristine condition (including 100% battery health) for $515 back in November off Swappa. Is it worth it to upgrade to a 12? I probably would foot the extra $40 for the 128GB version.
Looks like the changes are pretty incremental--slightly better screen, slightly better camera hardware, and 5G radio. I guess the real question is whether T-Mobile would offer a free iPhone 13 (or whatever comes next) with iPhone 11 trade-in; or a free iPhone 14 with iPhone 12 trade-in. |

My 12 Pro 256 is a great phone, and with ATTs $850 trade-in credit it was a no-brainer. But the 12S/13 [the Pro models at least, if not the entire range] is going to have a 120hz screen, under-glass touch ID, slightly better cameras, a faster processor, and a slightly bigger battery, and a smaller notch. All in the same package. Well worth waiting a few months for IMO. |

If you trade for a 12 now, can you trade up for a 13 a few months later or is there some restriction on doing that?

T-mobile trade in deal is usually 24 months credit. They charge you for the new phone total divided by 24 every month and then credit you back the same amount. You will be locked in for 24 months on that line. If you want to upgrade again, you will probably have to pay off the total for the existing phone first. So pretty much you only want to upgrade if you think you are going to keep the phone for 2 years. If you are going to upgrade before that, then your free upgrade is not totally free.
$830 over 24 months = $35.48 per month Let's say T-Mobile values your iPhone 11 trade in at $240 Once they accept your iPhone 11 trade-in as good, they immediately apply a $240 bill credit to your account Then T-Mobile claws back that $240 over 24 months ($10/mo) The bill shows up as you paying $10/mo for the phone with a $25.48 credit Each month, $35.48 is deducted from the $830 balance for the next 24 months Let's say after 12 months, you want to trade it in for the iPhone 12S/13/13S/13Z/14/whatever, you need to pay the remaining balance ($415), but you'll still receive the $25.48/mo bill credit for the remaining 12 months |

There is also some complex math involved with the trade-in...

Really? I thought you would have to pay the remaining balance, but then you would stop receiving the remaining credits on the trade-in phone because you will be on a new 24 month credits on the new phone? If I only have to pay off the balance ahead of time but still get it back later, there is really no reason to not trade in iPhone 11 for 12.
You may have one Recurring Device Credits (RDC) promo per line at a time. To get a new Recurring Device Credits (RDC) promo and keep your current credit, you must pay off the existing EIP first.
After discussing with a super-helpful T-Mobile agent, we're just going to wait until September and gamble there will be a similar trade-in promotion. |
Are the newest iPhones (12 and newer) interchangeable on all networks, for example TMobile, Verizon and AT&T without ordering a specific carrier model?
|
I believe so. I don't think CDMA has been a thing for awhile.
Also, this is the first 5G modem Apple has used so it doesn't include all the 5G bands which are coming in line. Already, Qualcomm has announced newer modems with support for more bands. If we were able to travel internationally, we might find that iPhone 12 and other current 5G phones sold in the US may not be as well supported overseas. On Tuesday, Apple is expected to announce new iPad Pros with 5G options. But I believe they might use the same modem as the iPhone 12. So I'm thinking of waiting another year before buying a 5G iPad. |

I don't believe so, I think VZW has transitioned away from CDMA for a few years now. There may be areas where they don't have LTE coverage but can't be significant at this point.

The FCC’s website has a section specifically set up to receive these complaints. It’s the “nuclear option” but it works.

Only way to get their attention is the nuclear option, unfortunately. |

Keep an eye on your bill. My monthly credits "dropped off" randomly.
I got a text from AT&T just before the e-bill arrived saying, "As you have recently made a change to you plan, your bill will be increasing by $30/month going forward". Went to an ATT corporate-owned store and they told me they couldn't do anything, that I had to call the customer service line. It took me two hours to get through on the phone and the response I got was, "Thanks for the information. Your claim has now been filed and the information will be sent to our research department and they will text you their decision within the next month. If they find in your favor it will take two billing cycles for the credits to apply back to your account. Until then, you will have to pay the extra $30/month until the discrepancy is resolved." I never yell or even raise my voice with CS people, whether on the phone or IRL. And while I wasn't personal or in any way threatening, my response to the above would have made Quentin Tarantino blush. I've been getting the credit for seven months now. How did this become "my" problem? What "research" needs to be done? What do you mean "if" they find in my favor? [serenity now, serenity now] I eventually got a $30 credit applied immediately to my account for this month, but this sounds like a borderline scam as they already have my iPhone 8. What happens if, seven months on, they try to claim they have no record of it? This stinks to high heaven. |
Thanks for the tip about the credit falling off. All good so far, but I'll keep an eye on it monthly.
