Late to this thread but it's looking like ChromeOS is the future of tablets as far as Google is concerned. Early days, but last year's, low end Lenovo Chromebook Duet was an impressive peek into what could be. Me? Fandroid by phone, but pretty much strictly Apple by tablet.

My Tab S7 FE order status was changed to shipped. Still waiting for my Tab S7 to be ready for pick-up at my local Best Buy.
I was just coming back to post that they don't even offer anything for my Tab E trade in.

Chinese tablet problem

Quite a few years ago, I picked up a Chinese tablet (8" or 10"?) by Pipo in Hong Kong. It had dual OS: Win8 and Chrome. Worked well for my travels. But:

- Very poor tech support at the official site, and no support anywhere else online.
- Took some doing to change the language from Chinese to English.
- Battery stopped charging after a couple of years.

I almost gave up on my search for a powerful 8" category tablet

using a surface duo first gen ($400+). 8.1" unfolded, but it's not that great to use it as a 8.1" versus two 5.6" screens. Probably making it my secondary device instead of primary device. Also close to no software support(so on A10, Microsoft only recently promised a11 in Sept for eoy)

So likely giving up on this space, iPad mini is the only one in the 8" category

After my Chinese made Pipo tablet died, I purchased the Microsoft Surface 3 (10") in 2016(?). It suits my needs on the road perfectly.

- It fits snuggly in my small daypack, for carry on and for roaming the streets.
- It has two USB ports!
- It runs both Win10 (+ Office) and Chrome.
- Plenty of tech support.
- Still going strong.

If I need to replace it, I would get another used one on eBay, or a newer Surface Go version.

Picked up the Tab S7 from Best Buy last night (without the free Galaxy Buds2, which I'll continue to fight Samsung to get). It's weird how it feels very high quality yet fragile--probably because it's so thin. I bought a case for it from Amazon (until I can find a decent keyboard case that doesn't add 2lbs to the total weight), and it will arrive tonight.

My Tab S7 FE also arrives tonight, and the case arrived yesterday.

Edited to add: just got off a chat session with Samsung. I ordered Galaxy Buds2, and they are supposed to refund the amount once it's shipped. So basically I got a $500 tablet, a $600 tablet, plus two pairs of $120 earbuds for $300 + tax. And I let Samsung dispose of two 8-year-old tablets. What a steal.
