Zinio for Libraries

I would love to be able to use Zinio for Libraries to read emagazines on when travelling, but even though I have the app installed on my iPad and Android phone, have a login username/password set up (which are different from my local library website's login/pw), and have used the app in the past, I never seem to be able to log in to check out new magazines.

It's very frustrating. I even took my laptop computer, iPad, and phone over to the library a couple of weeks ago, sat down next to the tech librarian, and went through making sure I could log in and check out magazines using all three. Now two weeks later, I can't log in. Again.

I can see I'm not alone in this, because the iPad and Android apps both have a lot of low ratings related to login problems, but I don't think it's an app problem per se but rather a server problem (i.e., with RBDigital.com, which provides the Zinio for Libraries interface), because I can't even log in via the computer.

I have emailed via help/support links but not received any reply. Google searches lead almost exclusively to Zinio's own fairly useless "how to" PDF. Some other forum comments suggest uninstalling and reinstalling the app, which does not solve the problem, and does not pertain to why logging in via a computer doesn't work.

Does anyone have consistent success logging into Zinio for Libraries? Or is it just not ready for prime time? If so, that's very disappointing. Lots of libraries are paying subscription fees to access emagazines to their members, but Zinio/RBDigital doesn't seem to care if the service works or not.

(BTW I did search this forum before posting but only found references to the commercial Zinio app, those at least a few years old, and no mentions specifically of Zinio for Libraries).

It's a little complicated

Here's what works for me:

1. I go to my library page: lapl.org where I had already set up an electronic card and go through the library login process
2. Click on eMedia
3. Scroll down to the Zinio icon and click on it
4. Click on Login with my Zinio acct/password
5. Select what you want

It's not an intuitive process, for sure. It's generally worked for me, but sometimes requires going to the actual site to login, or multiple logins to library, zinio, and select library again. It's annoying.

Overdrive for ebooks and Hoopla for videos is much easier than zinio.

Yeah, I've done this, repeatedly, but it's not working for me. But thanks, I really do appreciate your reply.

Thanks for both replies. Still no luck though.

I'm all clear on and fine with the two-step login process (log in to the library website first, than log in to Zinio). The problem is step 2 isn't working.

A neighbor told me today he's been having login problems with Hoopla too.

Someone commented to me that if the problem occurred across all apps and operating systems, it wasn't really the service provider's server but rather its database that was the problem, i.e., the database not acknowledging my login.

I emailed the local librarian; she emailed back to say what the correct user name was for my account, I replied that that was indeed the username I was trying to log in with. Haven't heard back yet. I place some hope in the local library as its patrons' advocate in trying to resolve such problems.

I got an email back from Zinio saying basically that they don't provide support for Zinio for Libraries and giving me an email address for support via RBDigital. I'll see and report if anything comes of that.

Here's the support email address that worked for me:

[email protected]

They reset my password and I was able to login with the temporary password and create a new one.
