Outlook blocking access in OZ!

They blocked me even though the password is correct.
They were asking email addresses and subject titles etc to verify me - I took my laptop but it said unrecognized device - pretty annoying.

What do u guys do?

UPDATE:
I do not live in OZ. So usual logging in to my email is not in OZ. I stayed there for 10 days.
Outlook based on my IP address, knowing it is OZ, they blocked me. The moment I got off the airplane, though it is not my home town, it let me access.
Because I have many emails, I do not use their app on my smartphone - just log in using the browser.

I use a guy there, he can probably help you - Oscar, a real wiz. Just down the road, in a little shop behind a curtain.

I'm not an expert in this, but I suspect that when an expert does come along, he's going to ask you some questions to further diagnose the problem.

1) Are you having trouble with the MS Outlook application, or Outlook web mail?
2) When you say blocked, exactly what do you mean? Are you getting a message that specifically says "this has been blocked", or are you simply unable to connect?
3) Who is the "they" who are blocking you?
4) Who is the "they" who were asking you for email addresses and subject titles?
5) What information did you supply to this "they"?
6) What "it" said your laptop was an unrecognized device? At what point during this process?

It might be helpful if you list exactly what you did in nauseating detail. A lot of people don't want to list all of that detail, on the assumption that, "Well, everybody already knows this! It's what everybody clicks/types/does to get online." But processes vary wildly, so sometimes the tiniest details can be helpful in determining the problem.

From the little information you posted, I surmise several things:

a) You can't get to your work email, and are assuming that it is intentionally blocked by someone or something, rather than simply experiencing a technical glitch.
b) You are getting some message boxes or web pages that are asking you questions when you try to access your email through the means which normally work for you. You've answered those questions and are still unable to access your email.

From these suppositions, we can deduce that the problem could be any one of a number of things:

i. Your laptop might not be connecting to a wireless/wired network at all.
ii. You might be connected to the hotel's wireless/wired network, but not getting through to the internet due to insufficient password (not YOUR password, the password to use the hotel's wireless), or an internet service outage at the hotel.
iii. Your laptop might be connected to the internet, but your company's proxy server doesn't recognize you due to the unusual location, and your company's proxy server is denying you access to your email.
iv. You might have been infected with malware which is blocking your access
v. You might be the victim of a phising attack designed to steal some of your personally identifiable information, as part of a scheme to steal your identity, or gain access to your company's servers.
vi. Your company's email server might be experiencing a service outage.

See all of those possible problems? No way to know which one applies, or whether none of them apply and the problem is something else, without more detail.

Thanks for the questions - I was traveling to oz

I do not live in OZ. So usual logging in to my email is not in OZ. I stayed there for 10 days.
Outlook based on my IP address, knowing it is OZ, they blocked me. The moment I got off the airplane, though it is not my home town, it let me access.
Because I have many emails, I do not use their app on my smartphone - just log in using the browser.

It was frustrating not able to access emails and going through their security questions.

  1. When you write "Outlook", do you mean outlook.com?
  2. How do you know that Outlook.com blocked you?
  3. How do you know that the blocking was based on your IP address?

How was Oz? Did you seek the help of the Wizard, as advised by CPRich above? When you got back and all seemed fine again - I presume this was Kansas?

Did you get to meet Dorothy? There are lots of her friends on FT you know
