Flight audio question

I would like to use my bluetooth headphones instead of the airline headphones. I know that airplane audio outputs require a hard wire connection to the headphones. Is it just piped audio? Is there a bluetooth/wireless dongle that I could pair with my bluetooth/wireless headphones?

I've never seen a toggle for bluetooth/wireless headphones on any airline I've flown but then again, I haven't flown with every single airline so it might help if you let us know which airline you plan on flying with. If it's merely a general question, I would say "no"

Most airlines today provide a regular 3.5mm stereo output, which you should be able to plug a Bluetooth transmitter into (can be bought for around USD30). Some aircraft will have an older dual-mono 3.5mm output, adapters to convert that to 3.5mm stereo are pretty common and cheap.

Let's shift this over to the Travel Tech forum for further discussion. Thanks! /JY1024, TravelBuzz co-moderator

FWIW, mst airlines currently prohibit the use of devices that transmit a radio signal -- like the wireless bluetooth transmitter and headset being discussed here.

Yet for some reason they've decided that a wifi signal doesn't count. Probably because they can charge for wifi...

Actually, it seems it's only okay to have wifi on when they can sell wifi. On other flights it's not. But hey - I dn't make the rules.
