Well, of course - almost everyone loves iPhone when they get one.
The issue is whether you would love Android more than you love iPhone. And the only way to know that is to have both of them for a time to compare.
Generally speaking, however, I tend to recommend iPhone to those of my friends and family who are not tech-savvy and want a simpler phone without a lot of options. Even iPhone is a lot more complicated than an old-style dumb phone, but among the Big Four smartphones - iPhone, Android, Blackberry, and Windows - the iPhone seems least complicated and most friendly to the tech un-savvy.
Personally, having had both iPhone and Android, I will stick with Android. It fits my needs and habits better than iPhone. And it frees me from the shackles of the horrendous digital obscenity known as iTunes.

I disagree with the "get a flip phone" recommendation. Used to have one, try texting on a 10 key pad. Glacial. The iPhone has literally changed my life - put an incredible amount of information at my fingertips, saved me hours with free traffic reports (and eliminated the need to preprint maps), reply to email instantly, twitter, mobile banking ... the list is pretty endless. I would have a hard time surviving without it. And no technical skill needed, all the seniors in our family have easily mastered it.
As for price I am currently selling my old iPhone4's on ebay where used unlocked phones in excellent condition are pricing out in the $200-300 range. If you do go the used route I highly recommend you sign up with a prepaid carrier like redpocket or virgin so you don't pay the phone subsidy that is baked into the AT&T and Verizon prices.
